I was looking for a top 10 phone replacement for my 2nd hand motorola k1 red edition, and I was about to choose between Defy, Droid, Iphone ,BB Storm2 & Samsung Smartphone line up. First of all.... The term "Can handle everything that life throws your way" caught my attention. I must say that I'm a careful guy when talking about gadgets but it came to my attention that the phone will resists drops (every moto does, but not as advertised) water, dust and some other thins that could damage part of the phone (screen) or make it die... but you know, when happens s**t happens, so it's better to be prepare for that. 2nd thing was the simplicity of the phone, 2 external button (volume and turn on-off screen) anything else it's in your screen. Some people does not like the motoblur interface but I believe that it's not bad at all. 3rd was the screen size, 3.7" is perfect for me, I thing that bigger that you'll be buying a mini tablet. 4th was the 5MP camera takes pretty good pictures and video, sharp, good color balance and also have a flash (led one but does the job - please take in mind that never... NEVER a phone can take Quality Pictures as a Photo Camera does). And 5th and last one... the price... 365 Shipped and Unlocked it's a Very Good Price for a phone like this... Maybe DROID can be more powerful but for the use that I'm giving to the phone (talk, little web surfing, SMS and 2- 3 pic per week) I believe that I do not need anything else. Samsung and Iphone are expensive for me, BB and Apple too like to make phones with good intentions but mid-potential (last ones are so so) in other words BB and Iphone are the "Fanciest and today famous phone that everyone likes to showoff". Maybe one thing is that Android Honeycomb OS (just for now for tablets) has just came out to light a couple of days and many people is asking, what's going to happen with my phone? If you're planning to but a DEFY don't be worried because in 2Q of this year (2011) the OS will be updated so basically you will rebirth your phone - rumors says that maybe a HD video update will come. Something that I forgot to mention it's that if you like music, you wake it up with a 32GB SDHC micro card and have hours of tunes (I've just sold my 1st.Gen 30GB ZUNE in order to make my Defy a Juke Box - 2gb card it's included). To end If you are thinking about a pretty nice phone upgrade but don't want to spend much, DEFY is the one for you.Read full review
This is the best small-form-factor phone I've been able to find so far, and it works great for being such an old model. However, it's definitely not the rugged little black box it's advertised to be. The very first time I dropped it the screen totally shattered and I had to replace it. So if you need rugged, buy a slimmer one and put a fat case on it.

If I was smart enough to design and build a phone, this would be it. I spend many hours on the river Steelhead fishing and many of my previous phones have met their untimely demise from an unexpected swim in the cold, cold water. The Motorola Defy not only survived a dunking but worked immediately after like a champ. Many of the new Android phones are large and cumbersome, but this phone is the perfect size for my use. I don't want to read War and Peace on it, I don't want to edit a full length movie, all I want is a phone that works, sends text and emails and can tell me the weather and the water conditions. I'm seriously contemplating purchasing another phone just so when the sad day comes that I put this one out to pasture I'll have another identical phone to comfort me in my sorrow.
I do not have a data plan, but I do use my phone with the WiFi at my home, and this is a great smart phone for those people that don't have data plans. It is very easy to use and to personalize.I do a lot of game playing on my phone, and have had a lot of problems with freezing up, or slow game performance, but with the Defy I have had none of those problems. Excellent sound quality for talking as well as listening to music or the radio. And the ringer volume at maximum volume is much louder than on other phones I have had in the past, which is important to me, because I can't always carry it in my pocket, but need to hear it if it rings from the other end of the house.
