I've been evaluating two lower level GSM Samsung Tracfones within the last few months, the SGH S125G and the older T105G. Specifically, I don't want/need a browser or anything fancy. The overall objective has been to reduce the monthly charges for relatively few phone calls and plain/short text messages. I also want a very light phone because of the way I carry. I've tried both the Samsung models with the T5 and C4 SIMs, so the summaries below "average" across the major providers. Design/Weight: The SGH S125G and T105 differ significantly in both "clunkiness" and weight. The S125G has square edges, a "painted" silver back cover, the back cover does not latch securely and falls off routinely, and it has a heavier feel. All this "clunkiness", though, makes it easier to do one handed work with the keypad because the SGH S125G is thicker than the T105G. The T105G has rounded corners, it is thin, it has a black plastic case that doesn't show scratches easily, the back cover fits very snugly, the keypad has a better feel, and it is a real featherweight. T105 wins here. Display: The SGH S125G has an awesome display, as compared to the T105. It is crisper, brighter, faster, and has better contrast ratio. Not much difference is noted on the SGH S125Gs When you tweek the brightness and contrast--it's great regardless. The displays on the SGH S125Gs also don't differ perceptibly between different units. The displays on the T105Gs are a bit fuzzy and accompanied by significant lag. These displays differ significantly between units, with some being perceptibly better than others--this relates to both a hue shift, brightness, and contrast ratio. So, what you end up with sorta depends on what arrives in the mail. Also, the viewing angle for all T105G displays seems to be designed to have the top of the phone tilted downward and away from you when viewing--not so with SGH S125Gs; contrast is perfect facing it head on. SGH S125G definitely wins here. Note, in this regard, that the SGH S125G has a 1000mA battery vs. the 800mA battery with the T105. Reception/Bars: At first glance, the T105G "seems" to be a bit hearing impaired. That is, bars are usually lower with the T105, with the same carriers and operating environment, relative to the SGH S125G. The SGH S125G pegs the bars nearly everywhere outdoors in my area. This difference concerned me at first until I noticed an interesting difference between the models when I carried them side-by-side. With zero bars, inside buildings, the SGH S125G will very quickly wave the "no service" flag. In the same environment, the T105 hangs in there and plugs right along--calls and texts are fine. So, don't trust the bar smoke and mirrors. T105G obviously wins here because of its functionality in dense buildings. Setting/features: The menus/options are virtually identical between models. There is ONE major difference...T105 has a call blocking option. Settings Calls All...look there. T105G wins in terms of those security alarm junk calls. Overall, the 125G a great phone and it will serve you well, but the older Tracfone model T105 is my favorite child.Read full review
This is an excellent, affordable, and admittedly basic phone. It is easy to use, sensibly laid out, and very good as a backup device for the car or work. Reception is acceptable and the keypad is very good. It also features a quick check of the time and missed calls and text messages that does not use much battery capacity. A super bargain in the eight to ten dollar range.....
The phone has all of the basics. Caller ID, Voice Mail, Phone Lock, Speaker phone, and Text messaging. Web is not available. The text messaging lets you use the old ABC or the T9 (phone guesses what you are typing). The phone has a variety of reasons to buy it. 1. The accessories. (home charger, car charger, phone case w/ clip, hands free microphone, and DOUBLE MINUTES!!)2.Backup battery. 3.Backup phone 4. Replacement phone 5. CHEAPER MINUTES!!! NOTE: NEVER NEVER NEVER pay retail for a phone card, pay sales tax, and enter a card code WITHOUT a PROMO code!!! (Not sure if I can list how, but email me and I will send you the info.) I just paid $18.99 for a $20.00 card. I got not 60 minutes, not 120 minutes, but 230 TOTAL minutes. (60 + 170 BONUS minutes)!! The phone stays charged for around a week. This is a GREAT value phone if you get it for FREE - $5. (Thus the high rating.) I was told by three different TracFone tech people that if you receive this phone free from Safelink then it comes as a DOUBLE MINUTE for LIFE phone. This is great for basic calling and texts and the double minutes so it is a GREAT VALUE for CHEAP and as a backup in an emergency. (e.g. You lose your Tracfone and need to connect a phone quickly to you Tracfone number.)Read full review
Excellent phone for such a low price; I just needed a basic phone to keep in the car for emergencies or in case the power went out in my home. Phone comes complete with ac charger, car charger and earbud. Has long battery life and I've had no problem getting a signal anywhere. There's also a downloadable user's manual available online.
Bought for my wife - even though it is an older phone, she could not navigate it. Had to return it.
