This has a large display. Never had a problem. No dropped calls. Configure to your needs. Speaker, outside display, mini disk memmory is available. Camera and video.Good battery life. MP3 player can be accessed from the outside touch screen.Nice and thin in size. Carries fine in your pocket without case. Has hands free call pick-up accessory. Draw backs are no camera flash, a little time consuming to write text as is any flip open phone, and battery will run down quicker when texting because the phone is open and is using power for display.
I purchased the Samsung SCH U540 phone about 5 weeks ago to replace a very basic phone that was 5 years old. Quite a jump! I had no difficulty updating the carrier with the new phone info using the Internet. The phone was in excellent condition and was bundled with an AC charger, DC charger, belt clip and stereo ear buds with an in-line mic for hands-free operation. The SCH U540 features include Bluetooth, speakerphone, a 1.3 MP camera, video recorder, MP3 player and the usual software tools i.e. contact list, appointment scheduler etc. It also has Internet capabilities (which I don’t use) that include e-mail, and the ability to download video and music. I especially like the easy to read color screen, the large buttons on the keypad and the intuitive, easy to navigate menus although accessing some of the features seems to require an excessive number of selections. The voice recognition software in the speakerphone mode is excellent and you can dial numbers from the contact list by speaking a name you entered in the contact list – no “learning” is required – nice! Pictures from the camera seem “flat” but can be enhanced on a PC and I’ve even used a couple in a club newsletter that I publish. Soon after receiving the phone, a 2 GB memory chip and USB cable (with software) were purchased to transfer MP3s, pictures, video and contact information between my PC and phone. The MP3 player has no treble or bass controls but the sound through headphones is crisp and clear. The speakerphone stereo speakers can also be used to play music but the sound is a bit tinny. MP3’s can be played with the phone closed and there are touch controls on the front of the phone to pause, skip forward and skip backward. These controls are extremely sensitive and an inadvertent brush will activate them. Battery life has been good, I charge it for a couple of hours every three days or so – my phone call usage is quite light but I do use the MP3 player every day during my exercise routine. I think that something people would like is the ringer volume. Wow! It's loud. You actually have to turn it down. It has 2 little stereo speakers. The menu is very user friendly. It has a pretty good choice of built in ringers. I like the fact that the front outside display has photo caller id. The camera does take slightly fuzzy looking photos but what can you expect from a phone. It's very slim, and lightweight. I would suggest putting a case on it though. My wife has already accidentally damaged the display on the outside and now it doesn't work. Other than that, the phone, when I received it, was in perfect working condition.
I was looking for a Page Plus compatible phone that was EZ to use and found it in the u540. Pros- large key board/screen, simple menu that is fairly EZ to navigate, LOUD speakers, low cost, nice front display Cons- can only accept 2Gb memory card, mini adaptor needed for head phones, just fair camera, no SIM card slot makes contact transfer a challenge when switching from GSM carrier Overall pleased with the phone and it's functions
I DROPPED THIS PHONE SINCE I GOT IT IN 2007 IN APRIL UNTIL I GOT RID OF IT WITH AN UPGRADE IN DEC.07 had pieces of outside missing, and the hinge bracket was crACKED didn't open well, it took like a hard push really, as it was sorta jammed, all scrapes, and had even gotten it wet. But worked flawlessly until I got my KRAZR, and then I decided on getting something different the next yr. at september. i really loved this phone, and it was the best probably nnext to my VERRYYY cool LG 8700. I really love that phone. Oh and my sister has another u540, it's not the same one I had but hers is the same age, she got it at the same time, kept it, and it still works. Battery has been replaced like 300 times. It still works excellently. Maybe someday she will upgrade, but for now, this is what she is using.Read full review
