This is the first step for me to the "smart" phone genre. My last phone was a Samsung Rubgy and I couldn't kill it! I was apprehensive to have a "candy bar' type phone(the flip phones are much more durable)but I have been impressed with this phone. First of all I have never used and Android and there is a heck of a learning curve. I have had this phone for three weeks and I still have a lot to learn. But it is awesome. PROS: Smaller size than most candy bar phones(fits in shirt pocket). Unbelievably bright screen (WOW). Water proof, shock proof, wi-fi, blue tooth. Gorilla Glass screen. Android(oh Yeah). Free downloads. Love Google Sky!!! Kick Ass camera/video/flash. Flashlight built in (very handy). Easy control buttons. Light weight. Holds a 32gb microsd card(kewl!). CONS: Poor battery life(I need to learn to shut off programs I dont use). Dust "door" on battery charger can be a pain. Texting with big thumbs can be challenging( but I have learned to use the voice texting to fix this). Sometimes the screen does not "read" my touch (kinda weird). All in all if this lasts as long as my last phone I will be very happy. I plan to update this review in a few months. Now does anyone have a link to a cool Android forum?Read full review
Finally a smart phone that is tough and durable. The Rugby Smart is a Mil Spec phone that uses Gorilla glass for the screen, which means that you can drop it without destroying it. It is also highly water resistant, the manufacturer states that it can survive 30 mins submerged in up to 1m of water. This is the smartphone that can survive "REAL" life. It has many good features that you will enjoy,it isn't as advanced as the Galaxy S3. But then it won't cost you an arm and a leg either. My one and only negative criticism of this phone would be the camera. It will take OK snapshots but it will not take good pictures.
Great phone overall. A smart phone with all the latest features, but it has a rugged durable design so no worries about breaking it. The one button touch for the flashlight is really handy too. Excellent screen and camera quality. The only thing I really don't like is how slow the phone is. After you open 3 or 4 programs it really starts to slow down. But I bought it for the rugged durable long-lasting design so I can live with that. I highly recommend this phone.
I love this phone, I run it on StraightTalk so I get unlimited voice, text, and data for $45 per month. The four "hard" buttons across the bottom are a huge differentiator from other Android phones I have used and seen. The flash light is also a nice feature; I had always used my phone to fumble around at night, but this flash light on the Rugby Smart is a huge advancement from my other phones. I haven't tested how tough the phone is (and do not plan to) even though that is one of the selling features, I like the phone way too much. The HD video camera is a nice bonus. Also, I added videos and photos easily from my Ubuntu Linux laptop, which was the first time a cell phone worked flawlessly with my computer. The battery life is average at best and the tiny amount of RAM (512) is annoying, but only on a minor scale. Also I cannot get rid of some of the lame AT&T apps. My last complaint is that when the phone is using the 3G network, it will say 4G at the top even though I know it cannot be using 4G. Again, just a minor annoyance.Read full review
So I got my rugby yesterday and started setting it up. It is a nice little phone and I like the size. Had a little trouble with google play at first but I figured it out. It gets a stronger signal than a normal smart phone. Normally with a smartphone the signal strength has issues in places but not with this one. One thing I noticed that is worth mentioning it doesn't get hot or overheat like the IPhone or Galaxy models. I have had mine on and been messing with it ALL day and it has stayed cool to the touch. I haven't tried to break it yet but it seems pretty tough. So far I really do like it.
