I have gone through i90c, i830, i850 and now on to this one. I absolutely love it. I have never owned a rugged phone but I like the fact that if it falls or gets wet I don't have to really worry about it. PROS -1.3MP camera with flash -Video capture with sound -Micro SD card w/ SD card adapter included to make transferring pictures to computer easy -Bluetooth -Vivid color screen -Easy to read external display -Solid and rugged with a sleek design -Belt clip holds phone in well -Seems like a longer battery life and stronger signal than previous Nextel phones owned CONS -Slightly bigger (although not too big) -No calculator -Belt clip can sometimes hold phone in too well when trying to get it out -Old SIM cards do not work with i580 and the Nextel SIM card copy device has a hard time duplicating numbers onto new cardRead full review
The Nextel i580, in my humble opinion, is one of the best phones that Nextel ever came out with. It is for those who demands a little more than just making or receiving phone calls or making direct connect calls (a.k.a. "walkie-talkie"). This Bad Boy has MP3, Bluetooth, a very superb camera that is actually better than what I formerly have (i860), a hard calmshell where the clumsy or the worker can have a good piece of mind, direct talk, and other powerful new features. Likewise, there are some cons such as a pathetically short battery life, small external dispaly, and of course its quite bulky. Trust me I tried every Nextel phone and it ranks third overall in my opinion behind the i880 and the i860, respectively. When I first received it as a gift from my father, the phone felt like a brick and I almost had it return in favor of my Nextel i860. However, I gave it a chance and it really nice. It's not girly, by any means. It is a guy or a tomboy delight. My father bought it on eBay for me because I am extremely clumsy with my phones and ending up breaking my i860 so instead of keep exercising my mobile insurance option he bought me the i580. In regards to looks, I prefer my i860. However, in regards to everything but looks, the i580 has a lot more to offer. In conclusion, I highly recommend the Nextel i580 to those who don't care about how trendy the mobile phone looks and wants everything you can pack into a mobile phone for work and play. If looks is an issue, I humbly advise else where such as i880, i870, or i860. It is not a pretty phone and can look like an eye sore but its loaded. Enjoy!Read full review
This is a really good phone with all the bells and whistles if you like an older phone. Everything does whaT it is supposed to do except for a small amount of wear and tear from normal operation. This phone has a mini SD memory slot, PTT walkie talkie chirp, mp3 player, 2.0 mpxl camera and video mode, LOUD speakerphone mode, spotlight unaffiliated with the camera, bluetooth, GPS capable, Internet capable with browser. Not to mention that this phone is practically indestructable, rugged, water resistant, shock resistant, dust resistant, all MIL-SPEC. The ONLY caveat would be that it doesn't come with a calculator. Pitty.
I have used these phones since they came out. They are great for a tough work phone and carrying everday. They have a good signal, they work with Sprint, Nextel, and Boost mobile. If you need a phone for texting or good pictures then look elsewhere. This is just a good simple workphone. The battery life could be longer but it's OK. Also, what usually does go wrong with these phones is the lcd screen on the flip goes blank. I have had 3 of them to go bad, but the phones still works fine to make and recieve calls. The PTT feature is very good if you are working construction and need to have distance communication with others on the project. This phone isn't a texting, music playing, picture taking high frills phone. It will take pictures or do music but Not Well. Just A Good Telephone!
This phone is top of the line: Super Cristal Clear Loud Speaker, i don't need a headset or headphone to listen to my MP3's, you can actually print a 5x7 clear picture by programing the phone to take max picture which is 1280X1024 pixels. can handle even a 2 gig of microSD memory card so you can store hundreds of music and pics in it. I'm a construction contractor and i've dropped, spilled coffee on it, dusted, muddied, I use a 150 PSI compressor blower to undusted it, my one year old son plays with it, trows it on the floor, you name it. no damage at all. I will never own another phone. PROS: -1.3MP camera -External light -Video capture with sound -Micro SD card w/ SD card adapter included to make transferring MP3's file from PC to phone, or transferring pictures to pc easy -Bluetooth -customizable buttons/menus -Vivid color screen -Easy to read external display -Solid and rugged with a sleek design -Belt clip holds phone in well and many other extras... CONS -No calculator. (u can buy it for 5 bucks) -No games. (u can buy it for some dollars) -I Highly recommend insurance on it. -Its Okay if you buy it from eBay or else where to save some dollars, you wouldn't be able to ensure it trough nextel unless you owned one and insured.Read full review
