Kyocera Switch Back. Although it initially seems like a normal if oddly shaped candy bar phone, a closer inspection reveals that it opens lengthwise to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. Perfect for text-crazed teens, the Switch Back (a.k.a. Strobe) offers a set of youth-friendly features, such as a VGA camera, Java support for gaming, instant and multimedia messaging, and a wireless Web browser. Add the prepaid Virgin Mobile service and a selection of exclusive MTV content, and you get a perfect match for kids and hipsters under 25. After all, it's not often you get a keyboard on something other than a smart phone. The speakerphone and the voice dialing may tempt older consumers to take a look as well, but they'll likely be put off by the bulky design, the tiny external display, the minuscule keys, and the lack of higher-end features, such as Bluetooth. At $149, the Kyocera Switch Back is on the higher end of Virgin's price scale, but it's a fair cost for what you get.Read full review
I bought an used phone, so I will not comment on the finish, only on some of the features. The front dialing keypad has the keys in such a position that the usual well finger-known sequence of 1-2-3/4-5-6/7-8-9/*-0-# looks more like 1-arrow down-3/4-2-6/7-5-9/*-8-#/blank-0-blank. Difficult to dial phone numbers with the sense of touch... easy to dial wrong numbers if you are not actually looking where you put your fingers. The inner QWERTY keypad is somewhat easy to use but it could be better. The outer screen is so small that you need to get it too close to your eyes to be able to read the caller ID numbers and any message. This is not the case with the inner bigger screen, but by the time you open the phone to see who's calling, the caller either hangs up or the call goes into voice mail. The games are lame. The calculator function seems like a mission to get it to calculate anything. Another issue is the battery time. In 24 hours or less, it's dead. Now, it could be because it is the original battery that came with the phone when it was new. The camera works as could be expected from a minimal pixel camera phone, but I always carry my regular digital camera so i rarely use the phone for pics. The internet access is somewhat slow and difficult to navigate compared to others. The overall design, not a pretty phone and too bulky for most pockets. Other than that, it does what it's supposed to do as a phone, plus, it doubles as an expensive paperweight. Actually, I bought it for my son who is into text messaging, and he dismissed it as "ugly" and "too heavy", so i kept it for myself. I Regret keeping it when I could have chosen a simpler model for much less to do the same things that I am actually doing, but at $65 (auction price) it works better than my old broken Kyocera 2235.Read full review
I think this is an excellent phone. Never had a problem with the phone. I don't like the expense of a data cable and the CD. I know you can get them cheaper, so if anyone knows where to get the disk and cable cheaper, I would greatly appreciate it....otherwise a great little phone with clear reception. It has a limited area so I keep my tracfone on me to cover the roaming areas. That is another problem with this phone service. If you don't like a contract service this is the one for you because it has a wider range of service than the others. You still have to watch out for the blackout areas. The phones are great. We have k612b strobe and I bought the Samsung messenger. Nice phone but the data transfer sucks because there is none. You buy a 2gig card and it atill sucks because I can't transfer anything anyway. Oh well, I guess I'm just a novas and will learn to add info to this card. We will see if it works out........Read full review

-from a teen's POV- As I purchased this phone, I thought it was the neatest thing ever. It truely is; I've not had any major problems with it. It's a crowd pleaser and and it's sure to please you. Ultimately, I would recommend that you buy this phone. PRO'S: cute design, great for texting, crowd-pleaser, good service, comes with games (on US Cellular, at least), size*, basically it's everything about this phone minus the cons below. (: CON's: when placed in the pocket or purse the buttons on the outside are easily pressed - I use the keygaurd, and it prevents this. But there are two more flaws in the keygaurd: it will allow you to answer calls [it turns off when a call comes on, but will, after hanging up, activate once more], and that it takes about 4 seconds to turn off. This may not seem like a lot of time, but when you do get to that point it's seriously annoying. Also; after a lot of opening and shutting on the phone, it wears out by squeaking [very quietly, I assure you] when you open and close it. This is minor, though. OH! and it doesn't hold a charge extremely well. It lasts about 48 hours and then it dies. comparatively? This phone is smaller than an envy from Verizon. This phone is much cuter than an envy from Verizon. This phone easily beats the envy from Verizon and is much, much cheaper than the envy from Verizon. This phone is money-well spent and you cannot go wrong purchasing it.Read full review
