Note: this item was listed as Sony Ericsson Z520a (AT&T) when I bought it on eBay, but the phone's menu/status screen says z525. I went from the Motorola RAZR V3 (screen died), to my old reliable 2005 model Sony Ericsson z500a, to this one. This phone's call quality is good. This phone has additional features, like push-to-talk, mobile e-mail, camera, Bluetooth, and useful apps. The screen on this phone is colorful and easy to see, even in sunlight. The keypad has contoured keys, nice backlighting, and an easy to use, contoured menu-toggle-thing, top-center. The menus are easy to follow, and there's help/tutorial features if you don't get it on your own. This phone is not as thin as a RAZR, not as wide as RAZR, easy to open and hold. The battery seems to last long enough that it hasn't run down yet. I use it less than 1 or 2 hours talk time per day and charge it every evening. Overall, I like this phone. I would describe it as user-friendly, and technically competent. I give it a rating = Good. Possibly Excellent.Read full review
This phone has a great set of features, speaker, camera (quality is not the greatest though), video clips, bluetooth, custom rings possible for every phonebook entry, email, nice size, good keypad quality. BUT.... it also has a high failure rate, so much so that it was taken off the market. The first set of them had a serious software problem that caused the phone to hangup for no reason. Also, the sound would shutoff similarly, for no reason. You'd have to remove the battery or reboot to restore the sound. If that's not enough, the screen would turn white on a random basis. AT&T would replace them if under warranty but get this, if you were in the 11th month of the 1 year warranty, you would have only 1 month left of the warranty on the replacement. Many of these phones work fine with no problems but be aware that the failure rate is quite high.Read full review
Excellent sound quality on both ends with this phone, though I have yet to test the Bluetooth functionality (waiting on a Samsung WEP200 to come in) other than transferring files. 16MB of memory is more than enough for taking a few pics, or having a few MP3 ringtones. Those who want more memory for MP3's in a GSM phone might want to look at the Motorola V635. My one major complaint is the instant camera button located on the left side of the phone body. If you keep it in your pants pocket, chances are you'll accidentally hit the button and take pictures of the interior of your pants pocket. It would be nice to have the ability to disable that feature in the setup menu.
Like: The phone features cool, blue light-up patterns when ringing. It is a slim phone even though it is a flip. Easily personalized by popping off the cover and changing to whatever pattern or color you desire, so easy you can actually change it to match your outfits! Dislike: The camera feature is nice, although there is no flash. BUT, the camera button on the side of the phone, is so sensitive...it is CONSTANTLY taking pictures while in my pocket, purse, or just sitting on my carseat. It's funny actually, I'll be just standing there talking to someone, and you'll hear it start snapping photos on it's own. lol I bought this unlocked to use on my suncom account, but it was originally set up for cingular. For this reason, I am unable to use many of it's features so feel a little slighted. The phone is in great physical conditon, as described. The battery lasts well for resonable, average talk time. However, the phone arrived with its memory full of the previous owners pictures and contacts. Not only is this a breach for someone from Illinois' privacy, but also a hassle for me to erase all that data. To use the master reset on the phone, a pass key was required - which the seller could not produce. So instead one can manually delete each contact and picture - one at a time.
