I love my Wing, the design, the size, the color and the applications. However, I hate the fact that in 3 years time I have probably gone through 4 or 5 of them usually because some aspect of it fails, the touch screen, the menu buttons, the back door doesn't stay on, the phone freezes, on and on. Additionally one of the main reasons that I bought it for (using the programs like Outlook, mobile word and adding applications) is not really possible because the memory is just not sufficient enough to do it. There are some solutions out there like purchasing a microSD card with high storage capacity and install your applications on there, but if your not that computer savvy this can seem daunting in an of itself. The camera I've never been able to get a really good picture with but I don't really use it that often. Anyway for whatever reason I still love my Wing; maybe it's the Qwerty keyboard, the excellent t-mobile service, the slide-out keyboard, the great organization that comes with the tasks feature and the calendar with its reminder function, the internet access, the video playback ability or the MP-3 player. Additionally it's really easy to sync it with your computer using ActiveSync, a major plus for me because as I said I'm not that computer savvy at all. I don't know something keeps me buying one (potentially gonna fail) Wing after another. Maybe it's just that I haven't found another phone that links all of the features I love so much together as well as the Wing has done. It's my Love/Hate relationship with the Wing!!Read full review
I bought this phone for the internet capabilities, and the fact that I was sick of carrying around and using my phone and my pocket pc to do the work one smartphone could handle. I picked it up used off of ebay for 40 bucks, and It doesn't dissapoint! The internet explorer browser that comes with the phone is a little outdated, so I had to download and install the Opera Mini browser. The phone loads pretty much any web page from facebook to ebay. I haven't been able to get youtube to run on the phone, but I haven't looked to hard on how to do it, so that's not really a complaint of mine. There are plenty of free programs out there to enhance your user experience. I downloaded and installed an mmorpg without problem, as well as a mobile port of Doom. The HTC Dash runs Windows Mobile 5, which is easy and reliable to use. Windows Mobile 5 also comes with Office Mobile, which includes "mobile" versions of Microsoft word, excel, and power point. I use excel the most, to build check registers and to price out future purchases I want to make and see how much money I saved. The smartphone comes with a really amazing little camera, which allows you to adjust the brightness and the other point and shoot settings on the fly. Sometimes the controls of the keyboard are a little confusing, and you have to smash buttons to try and figure out what button does what. My main complaint about this phone is the darn texting autofill. There's no way to turn it off, and while you're texting if it displays a "possible option" to what you were typing and you hit the space bar, it inserts that word automatically! If you're not paying attention, you end up sounding crazy. It doesn't remember words you typed most very well, and it bases its word recommendations off the text you last sent, like it expects you to say the same thing twice. As far as the hardware goes, the smartphone has sufficient storage to hold many pictures and thousands of texts, so if you're like me and like to go through and save some of the good ones, its great for that. It has plenty of memory so you can run mulitple tabs in Opera Mini, office mobile and text your wife without problem. It has a microsd port, and I don't know the maximum capacity of that port. I have a tiny 2GB and it reads it perfectly. There are two main problems I have with the hardware, one is the volume buttons on the right side of the screen. They are very touchy, and when you call someone and you put the phone to your ear, it'll turn up or turn down your volume so much its hard to understand what the other person's saying! I ended up disabling the volume buttons and setting it manually at a comfortable level because there is no hope for these buttons. I watched a review on this phone before I bought it, and they said that the buttons originally were for scrolling on a web page, but that it didn't function as planned so they turned it into a volume button. The second problem, which is common among many phones, is that there's no 2.5 mm headphone jack. You either have to listen to music through the built in windows media player through the speaker on the phone, or you have to buy an audio adapter for the phone. I used to use my phone as an mp3 player as well as for productivity, but I can't any longer! Kind of unfortunate, why carry around 2 devices when you can use one for everything? Oh and the replacement battery is only 7 bucks!!!! Overall this is a great phone, and I hope that you found this review to be helpfulRead full review
This is the 2nd "Dash" phone I've had. I usually choose it because it costs less than a Blackberry or Droid. In my opinion its not on the Droid's level but pretty close to the Blackberry Curve. It is a good 3G smart phone, screen is bright and clear and its wifi and video capability is very good. Screen is smaller than others (some) but very good quality and sharpness. It uses Windows Mobile, so it operates similar to a Windows PC-I think making it more easily usable for 1st time users. It features a massive amount of control-from wallpaper and fonts to the duration of display and back light timeouts. So far the battery life of this one is much better than the previous generation of the HTC Dash but might be an issue for this model after some age. My previous Dash had less than an 8 hour standby life-even w/o being used at all! This happened after about 6 months of ownership. Much less than my G/F's Blackberry or similar Motorolla battery. The only other critical thing I have to say about this model it the keypad is a bit harder to use because the buttons, even though larger than other phones, are more flat (rather than peaked/pointed) and makes hitting 2 keys by mistake more likely. They are almost flat and nearly touch adjacent keys. Its something I'll probably get used to over time. If this battery holds up better than previous models- I'd highly recommend this phone for anyone wanting a high level of performance for their money. At about 1/2 or 1/3 the cost of the latest and greatest smart phones (depending on if you get a deal with contract extension), I think its a great value. NOTE-T-Mobile WILL NOT sell you this phone w/o a data plan. This phone works perfect even w/o out it. So rather than getting roped into another 2 more years at a more expensive plan, I bought my Dash here on Ebay for under $100 (T-Mobile wants $80+2 year data plan (almost $200 w/o plan) so if you wanna keep a less expensive plan with your carrier but want more capability from your phone; this is the way to do it! With wi-fi so available in stores/restaurants, in your car is the biggest place where absent data plan is noticed. Oh and by the way-it features GPS and Google maps the work w/o the data plan. So overall, it is one of the best "bang for your buck smart phones out there-so if you want a lot of functions and are on a budget, I recommend this phone for you. I think you will be happy with this one!!Read full review
For a low price, the Tmobile Dash is an excellent choice for a very rudimentary smartphone. Being a little outdated, it's interface and OS are a little slow and hard to get used to (no touch interface!) but get the job done. What I liked most about this phone was its WiFi capability and full keyboard. Although the keys seem small at first, they are well laid out and are easy to use (even for people with fatter fingers). Setting up the phone was very easy along with configuring e-mail/calendar/contacts sync with my PC. On the contrary, what I didn't like about the phone was its computing speed. Most of the button commands were a few second delayed which got especially annoying while typing an e-mail/SMS. The WiFi, while connecting seamlessly, seemed even slower that T-mobile's EDGE network (maybe outdated WiFi hardware?). Regardless of a few minor flaws, this phone serves as an excellent smartphone for a very affordable price. It looks good, is very user-friendly, and is easy to find parts/accessories for. Overall, a great buy!Read full review
This is a GREAT Windows Mobile Operated Smartphone; The one I got here off EBay had Microsoft Office Mobile & Adobe Acrobat Reader loaded... My other smartphone didn't come with these installed so getting them with the phone was nice... Another Great plus to this phone is that even if you don't have internet on your T-Mobile plan with the built in Wi-Fi you can simply log on to any home or hotspot network around; the quick device on and off features is a nice touch to the user interface... Ideally because it is T-Mobile all that has to be done is slip in the SIM card and its on the network, unlike other phone companies... There is no need to call in the phone and all that to use it when you have T-Mobile... The only thing I dislike about the phone is the volume touch unit on the side... Its either too sensitive or not sensitive enough and its a hassle when the control comes up on the screen when you brush it when text messaging... Overall I like the Phone, its Styling, and Ease of use... Its a Great phone to have at a fair price in the used market to get yourself out of the past style phones and up to date with some Windows Mobile; after all its a computer in your pocket/cell phone... Another Minus is there is no Flash or Lighting for the Camera... I give the phone a 4.25 out of 5... I only give it this because of the Side Volume button and No Flash/Lighting for the Camera... In comparison to the newest phones out as of writing this it is still a GREAT phone..! 9 out of 10 Overall Still..!Read full review
