Hardware: -------- The Lumia 710 is a great device. It's 3.7" display means it still fits in your pocket. It is sturdily built (as are most Nokias) and feels good in your hand. The screen is highly visible in direct sunlight, due to its deep black background and the sharp colors. The camera on this device is OK, but nothing to write home about. One feature I like is your ability to use the camera even when the hone is locked, so you won't miss anything while unlocking it. The lack of microSD card support is becoming more noticed as I add music to the phone. Don't let the 8GB number mislead you - a chunk of it is taken by the OS and apps. Assume no more than 4GB wil be available for media files. About the only thing I did not like about the Lumia was the battery life. At only 1300mAh, the battery needs to be charged at least daily. More often, it'll run out before the end of day. Try listening to music, or using the GPS and you'll face a shorter use time. I hope there's an OS upgrade coming that can improve battery life, or that Nokia issues a better battery. Software: ------- Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) OS is snappy and beats my Android and iOS devices in a speed test at almost any function. Navigation is simple, and almost any piece of data can be promoted to the home screen and live there as a tile (example: a contact you need to call, or a web page you want to look at later). Several applications have active tiles that provide the data you need without having to actually start the app. If you're an Xbox player, you have access to your account, achievements, games, friends and even your avatar makes an appearance. I also like the People hub, that collects all your contacts (email accounts, phone contacts, SIM card contacts, LinkedIn etc.) and allows communicating with them as individuals or groups (IM or text message - you can't call a group - yet). The free Nokia GPS apps (Maps and Drive) work as well as they did on Symbian. I read somewhere that a public transportation version is coming soon. In terms of apps, the Marketplace is still light, but I found versions of the main apps I use on other devices (EverNote, Twitter, eBay etc.) and more are coming. One glaring function that's missing is internet tethering. There are rumors it might be included in a future update, but for me, that's a feature no smartphone should be without from day one. Although, the feature might have been left out to mitigate the battery problem. Finally, another thing I started liking and using more is the search option. Triggered by clicking the right physical button, Bing search provides great voice recognition and a cool music identification feature that works! No need for the likes of Shazam anymore. Bottom line: ---------- Despite its battery issue, I like this phone and I'm currently using it as my main device. Once you get used to WP7 and its active tiles, it's hard to go back to Android and its widgets. I'm looking forward to the next evolution of this platform.Read full review
It's a great phone. I bought it because my previous phone was broken, and I didn't want to shell out for a new model at the T-mobile retailer only three months before my contract expires. I like how easy it is to set up and use. I don't understand why there is a search button that takes me to Bing, but it's not a big deal. The only issue I have with the phone so far is that it doesn't allow me to resend or forward texts, or even copy/paste them once they have been sent. Still, I prefer this phone to my old Blackberry. I also advise you to just pay for shipping if you need the phone urgently even though Fast and Free shipping is offered. I payed for the phone on a Monday and was told to expect it on or before Friday of that week. It was part of the reason I bought this phone. I didn't get it until the next Tuesday and, it was supposedly shipping from a city 11 miles away from me.Read full review
I took a chance on a windows phone as I am more familiar with Android based phones. I bought this phone from ebay instead of my carrier as all of their smart phones are $200 or more since they did away with contract renewals. I would say overall this phone does everything I need it to. I would like to see improvements for deleting text messages and calls as the only way to delete texts is by holding your finger on the thread you want to delete until the menu pops up giving you the option. There is no way to select multiple threads all at once, at least no where that I have been able to find. As for deleting the call logs you have the choice to delete all otherwise you have to select and delete each one individually. I am not on any of the social networking sites so I cannot tell you if it serves those purposes well however there are several options to tag and add things to various sites. I like the fact that all apps are removable on this phone and you are not stuck with the factory loaded apps as I was with my previous android phone. One thing I miss is the lack of apps on the windows market. Particularly the call block one and some retail and banking apps. I imagine after it has been out for a while the market may continue to grow. The battery life seems below average. Considering I don't tweet, facebook, or instagram I am surprised at the battery life on this device. Just between calls, texts, and emails, I can nearly drain my phone at the end of the day. Some days require a charge at lunch time. I hear you shouldn't charge your phone unless the battery is almost gone but I found if I skip a charging I am certainly digging for my charger by lunch time. Also, this phone took some getting used to after switching from an android phone but as I said earlier it does everything I need it to so I suppose I will keep it around. Not sure if I will purchase another windows phone unless the app market and earlier mentioned issues are fixed. I selected yes to recommending because it is not a horrible phone but I would only recommend it if your needs are somewhat limited.Read full review
Easy to use windows phone. The display is clear and high resolution. About things I don't like about the Lumia is the battery life. At only 1300mAh, the battery needs to be charged at least daily. You cant use a song as a ringtone. If you have no internet connection most of the applications will be useless for you. Also I was shocked when I realized that my old Nokia Xpress Music 5800 has more features. Of course the Lumia much faster.
This is the best Windows Phone based smartphone on the market right now. Nokia has made a quality phone for a reasonable price. The interface is smooth with zero lag, and the display is clear and high resolution. The phone has a beautiful shape and design. Windows Phone 7.5 (WP7) is very easy to use and compares well with Android and iOS. Many functions are easier to use with WP7, and it easily connects to various email systems (MS Outlook/Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) and various social networks (Facebook, Twitter). The voice quality is very good and compares with other high end smartphones. T-Mobile's 4G network is very fast if it is available in your area. This phone is a good deal when combined with T-Mobile's Monthly 4G pre-paid service.
