This single, originally released back in December of 1995, was issued to help promote the upcoming "Beatles Anthology" project. It featured the first "new" Beatles recording of the group together as a foursome since 1970. "Free As A Bird" was a demo recorded by John Lennon in 1977. In 1994, the three remaining Beatles - Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr - got together to add additional vocals and instrumental backing to actually create a Beatles record. The end result is a masterpiece that showcases the group in the 90s. "Free As A Bird" eventually won the group three Grammy awards: Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals and Best Video, Short Form for this song as well as Best Video, Long Form for "The Beatles Anthology" home video collection. The record's B-side is a holiday offering titled "Christmas Time (Is Here Again)". It was the title of their 1967 Christmas record offered to fan club members in the UK. This version has an extended edition of the song, which also features individual greetings from each group member followed by a John Lennon pastiche from 1966. This makes a fine holiday recording. Overall, this was the perfect Christmas record to give as a gift to any Beatlemaniac. Happy holidays from the fab four!Read full review
