I've heard people complain about the screw on the back & actually registering it, but i've had no problems. Maybe i got lucky with mine, and i bought it used. I'm a basic golfer that just needs to know how far the hole & hazards are. If you want more detailed info & colored satellite looks, this is not for you. My buddy has the golf link on his phone & paid as much as me to download it, as I had to to download courses. It works good for him, but it sucks up his battery life,& calls, emails & texts interfere with it. Ilike it, and will have it for some time
First the downsides: The connector is very awkward. You have to align 6 pins then screw in a small screw, being careful not to strip. The other downside is that it takes a long time to warm up. I often need to reboot 1 to 2 times before a round before the device receives signal. Other than those two issues it works very well. Big screen that is easy to read even in bright sunlight. I have now played 3 different courses and each time I got a strong signal. The controls are easy and intuitive to use. So far all the yardages seem accurate. Plus I got it a factory refurbished unti for 1/3 of the original retail price. Good product overall.
The only real drawback to this unit is the design of the interface cable connector, but once you've used it a couple of times, it's really not an issue. There are a number of reviews indicating yardage inaccuracy, lost GPS connections, etc. This can be a problem for ANY golf GPS device, and varies by location. I used the SG4 for two years, and only had to reset the GPS connection twice (in over 75 rounds of golf) to re-establish GPS connection or fix accuracy issues. Overall, this is a great golf GPS that works very well with very good consistency.
The Skycaddie SG4 (rechargable) is a GPS that for some is a good basic hand held unit. I had found it very useful clear markings and yardages were close to marked courses fairways. The lengtth of charge of unit was also as guide indicated (approx 14hr). For the person who just wants basic yardage and doesn't want to bother with a gaggle of confusing options as some of the more advanced and newer GPS rangefinders it is great. I would recommend for anyone who want an inexpensive Basic GPS.
Purchased the SkyCaddie SG4 GPS Golf Range Finder for a moderate price, only to find out that a separate paid membership to Skycaddie is required every year. I'd rather have the watch, comes pre loaded.
