I use this GPS a few years. I cannot imagine, that can be better gadget. It functional in the car, train and even in area craft. It is essential in a new city. Micro card can be loaded with detailed map of any region. I used it in my travelling in North America, South America, Europe. It has outstanding performance. Supply all essential information. For example, I used it for preparation in Italia. In my house in Canada, I marked all my Italian points. I did the same for trip to Buenos Aires. Taxi there expensive for me. We took a bus in aeroporto. It took about two hours by bus. But all time I was monitoring how far bus moved in reference to our hotel. I knew nothing in the city, but when distance between the hotel and the bus become 1000 feet, we stopped the bus. Got out and in 5 minutes where in our hotel. Unit very comfortable. Easy to use. Two AA battery can serve non crop about 24 hours. This is wonderfully unit. I have one. But one thought that such miracle can disappear, force me to buy another copy. Now I have two and I'm happy. The screen is overly small and crowded. The functions are quite complex and difficult to learn. The color is nice but the graphics are fuzzy rather than clear. The instrument eats batteries like crazy -- especially when the operator is trying to learn.

Purchased as a Christmas gift for my husband. Had him completely snowed, as he assumed I was clueless about GPS units - MEN. This is a wonderful unit for the price. Capability to use Micro SD is a super bonus, especially when you have someone who feels the need to own EVERY MAP that there is. It picks up satellites almost anywhere, and is pretty accurate. Has a lot of bells and whistles, and lots of menus, so I would not recommend it for someone who is not very inclined to spend a lot of time figuring out how to operate. Mt guy is very techie, and we do a lot of Geocaching. I can honestly say this is the perfect remedy for that techie-couch potato type. Perfect for the experienced user, and for geocaching. Easy to set waypoints, and if you are geocaching you can even mark each cache as "found" in the unit as you find them. Also will do turn by turn directions for driving - no vocals, it just beeps when you need to ready yourself for a turn, etc. If you are looking for a unit SOLELY for driving directions, don't get this, because the screen is a lot smaller than units intended for that purpose. Another great feature - it is water-tight. Granted, if you drop it in a lake, you might as well forget it since it is only guaranteed to 3 feet for 30 mins, but this is perfect if your user tends to be the run-of-the-mill klutz around puddles. Battery life is excellent - haven't had to replace them yet. My suggestion is to buy a USB charger for your car (plugs into your cigarette lighter and has one or two USB plugs - SUPER HANDY) and to run it off the car power while in a vehicle. Don't waste money on a car charger, just get the USB charger - a lot of phones and music devices can be charged with it, too. Overall, VERY happy with this product. Garmin has a great rep, and this device upholds it wholeheartedly in my experience. Not that I intend to let him lose it or break it anytime soon, but when it inevitably happens, I will buy again. I bought this GPS for my fiance as a Christmas present. We love to take our dogs out on hiking adventures & go Geocaching together. Before buying the Garmin, we used an old B&W screen GPS with basic compass; it had none of the bells & whistles the Garmin offers. I decided to buy the Garmin because of the many great features: the electronic compass, altimeter, color screen, expandable memory & the ability to download coordinates quickly right onto the GPS. Let me tell you, being able to download our geocache coordinates with a click of a button straight to the GPS has been such a relief! Then you can just go to the map on the GPS and tell it to "Go to Nearest" and it will point you to the nearest coordinates saved. Great feature! The base map is just that, a base map, which is fine because I didn't buy this to replace my travel GPS in the car, and neither should you. The ability to purchase and download maps directly to the GPS is a great add-on, but I don't think it's necessary if you are using this for geocaching & already have another GPS in your car to get you to the location. The built-in electronic compass is a great feature, if it worked correctly. While out geocaching, the compass will tell me that the cache is located 25' SW and while we're walking in that direction, the compass will suddenly point and say the cache is located 25' in the opposite direction. This has happened almost every single time, until we stop and calibrate the compass, then it seems to work ok. But we shouldn't have to calibrate the compass every time we use it, right? We really miss the compass on our old GPS, which also pointed out the direction of the sun & moon, which would tell us if our compass was calibrated correctly or not. Now there may be a setting for the Garmin that you can turn on to show the sun/moon directions, but we have yet to find it. I do like the audible feature that beeps to let you know you are getting close to your coordinates. But sometimes it beeps at 50' away and sometimes it doesn't beep until 10' away. We haven't tested out the alimeter yet so I can't comment on its functionality. Overall this is a pretty decent compass to point you in the direction you need to go. But I am disappointed in the compass performance so far; I'm hoping that we have missed an important step in the user manual & setup and it will be a minor fix on our part. Still "iffy" about this one...Read full review
Excellent hand-held GPS receiver. I bought this due to the fact that it is portable, waterproof, has a barometer and is easy to use for Geocaching, and also comes with accessories that make it easy to transfer to my boat and my car. This a great little do-it-all unit. The only downside is that it has a small screen that is not the most ideal for travelling via automobile. However, I knew this limitation before I bought it and for my purposes, this is an acceptable tradeoff. If you are serious about buying a unit for your car, then I recommend that you get a large screen GPSR that is specially made for use in a car. This one works fine in a car for light use, just not recommended for large metro areas as you have to pan the map and do not have turn by turn directions.
