I use this as a primary lens, having started serious photography with a Nikon FM and an AIS 105mm f/2.5 lens, chosen for its known sharpness. IIRC, Henri Cartier-Bresson said a photographer should find one lens, and learn to really SEE images with it, and leave behind the zoom and/or 3, 4, 5, ad nausem chunks of glass for the tyro. Although a tyro myself, I subscribe to the concept, preferring the use of a short tele to suit my eye. Returning to film after a shameful hiatus, the Mamiya RB67 has become my weapon of choice, and after reviewing literally thousands of images, this 180mm specimen aligns best with my Inner Vision, such as it is. Since species of lenses prior to the K/L family have been said to be problematic, I went with this, and a Pro SD to mount it on. The view is beautiful, though dim when the DOF lever is pushed, and because the whole lens is focused on a bellows, the images are technically superior to any medium-format system I have seen, including the vaunted Hasselblad. Each shutterbug has their own vision, and it’s specious to say, “You MUST own one of these!!”. But if you enjoy film photography in medium format, IMHO, the RB/RZ system is the finest system to be found, period, though far from the easiest to use. Still...Read full review

Excellent lens. Outstanding characteristics. Outstanding sharpness, and color clarity. I use this lense for portraits and scenics. I bought this lens to complement my 150KL lense for increased options in my photography. The quality compares very favorably to my Hasselblad 150 T* lense, You can't go wrong with this lens, I haven't!!!
This lens is great! Perfect mid range telephoto lens for the RB. I bought this lens because I had the 180mm C, but wanted the KL, especially since I found it in new condition. I like this lens's sharpness. I don't like that there is no "feel it lock into position" notch for aperture half stops, like on the older lenses. The aperture ring is tight enough for it not to slip out of position easily, though.
