Relative newbie to bass but, from a beginner point of view it's been great. Slight rattle in the strings which I'm not terribly worried about. The action is set low which is good for a beginner until I build up finger strength and dexterity. It played well as shipped and I haven't had it professionally set up yet so I'll live with the rattle for a bit. The active EQ is a nice touch and allows you to really tweak the tones you can get. I also have an 80s Washburn "Steinberger" style headless bass that I paid more for than this one but, style points aside for the Washburn's uniqueness, the Korean made Ibanez sounds as good or better and has a more comfortable neck to me.

Excellent bass guitar. Active PU and 3 band built in EQ makes for a very versatile bass. Very well crafted, quality hardware. This is a working man's bass, not a toy. Great for a beginner because it give you the sound that encourages you to play and learn. Good enough to be your workhorse bass for gigging and you don't have to worry about taking a massive investment out on the road.

Great bass for an older sr400 model. the last owner obviously took great care of it. i wanted a bass with some attitude and looks, this was perfect, (dxj and dxp pickups with a 3 band active EQ, gunmetal blue color). this bass is different from the newer sr400 with hum-buckers, but don't let that fool you, it is still very powerful. the sound and tone i can get from the dxj and dxp pickups and the 3 band EQ is great! (growly, deep, warm, bright,... pretty much anything i want.) love this configuration. and it is definitely the best p/j bass i've picked up. i was also very surprised and happy to find out that the jazz pick-up IS hum-cancelling (Ibanez never told me that even when i wrote 7 messages to ask them). i like the knob configuration (top knob-p.u. blend, front-master vol, then it has a bass, mid, and treble boost/cut). the neck is fast and slim. the body is a little on the heavy side, but i can still play this bass in a concert and not get fatigued. i can reach all the frets with ease. the string spacing is great; i don't like them to be too far apart or too close. i can easily play and technique, (plucking, tapping, slapping, etc.) the best i can describe this bass is a combination between the sr400 and the gio200. it has the p/j versatility of the Gio and the power of the 400, adding the dxj and dxp pickups. it is definitely one of the best basses by Ibanez. very comparable, (and in my opinion better than), to other "higher enders." Definitely a keeper for me. if lost, stolen, or broken, i'd do my best to get the same kind.Read full review
I have always liked Ibanez basses. I especially like the Prestige line. But, after purchasing this used bass and putting new strings on it and setting it up, I LOVE this one! It plays really nice....almost as good as the older Prestige line of basses. The neck is nice and thin and when set up right, the action is unbeatable on ANY bass in the price range of a SR400. You will not be disappointed in the electronics either. The onboard EQ works really nice and gives you alot of voicings with this bass. If I had the chance to do it again, I absolutely would with no problem or hesitation!
I have played an Ibanez before but never owned one. I bought this Ibanez for a great price on ebay and it plays like a $1000.00 bass. It has a nice thin neck and the action is great. Sounds great also.
