After playing guitar for years Taylor seemed to be the guitar that fit my style and ear. Then came the time to plan for a visit to a high-end recording studio and nail my songs. A friend of mine wrecked my Taylor by pushing it over by accident. I was devastated. All these years of opening up this guitar I was so in love with - waisted. Well, there is perfection in everything - life has taught me - and the perfect opportunity here was to research and find a new playmate. Going for what I knew I bought a Taylor again, but it didn't really sing with me. Then I visited a store and sampled some different guitars - and Martin seemed to have more body. I felt the resistance - going in another direction than what I had intended. I had to sleep on it [not the guitar, but the idea]! As much as I like to get the best - I also like to take risks. So, after seeing/hearing John Mayer on Youtube on his OM-28V - I decided to put in a bid on Ebay for a 2005 OM-28V - not even knowing if I would like the V neck. The guitar was new - never played - and I got it for a fair price. As it arrived I immediately recognized that I was dealing with something special. The build quality - the sturdiness - of this guitar - a vintage model [originally created way back then] - was very convincing. I cleaned it. Changed the strings to my favorite [DR - brilliant sustain and they last for a very long time. Highly recommendable] - and started playing. The surprise was three-fold: Extremely balanced sound. Very fast neck. And the V-neck seemed custom made to my grip. It was love at first test! This guitar will be with me as long as I call myself a guitarist and performer. As for the recordings? It went very well. A Royer 122 mic through an amazing sounding Neve console from 1973 to 2 inch analog tape. Very full sound. Very authentic! And the OM-28V SO accommodates my voice. Never over-powering, but gentle - still with gratifying authority. _______________ Thank you to every single person at Martin & Co. You are great craftsmen. Honoring the material.
