Likes: This New Model Ovation has the Great elborate bridge pickup & equalizer/tuner electronics delivering a much more controlled sound than the standard Fishman type under saddle pickups resulting in a more versatile instrument covering many ranges and styles of playing. The newly designed flattened bowl is sure to please as it now feels like a guitar where the old round bowl was uncomfortable. The wood finish is done very well and flawless. Dislikes: The neck is the same Ovation feel as older models which is a little STIFF feeling compared to Fender,Gibson, Martin or Taylor necks and just doesn't feel FAST mainly the frets seem large & clunky. The binding on the neck and the pearl inlay are not good fitting and sub standard and don't match the quality of the rest of the guitar! Almost AMATEUR looking! This keeps the guitar from being rated EXCELLENT and lowers it to GOOD! Let's face it, at least 40% of a guitar's desireability is appearance. Many cheap Chinese guitars at 1/4 the price look much better but the ovation sound is far superior making it a GOOD buy where it could easily be an EXCELLENT buy with a little more attention to detail.Read full review
I purchased this model used on Ebay. I got the model with the Koa top. I love the sound coming from this guitar. Unplugged it has great range and volume. I recently purchased a Behringer Acoustic amp, plugged this baby in and it sounds like heaven. The guitar is very easy to play, I lowered the action just a tad by removing one of the shims. It is perfect. I tried several types of strings and I am really liking the Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze strings with light gauge. This is by far the best guitar I have ever owned. Not only is it beautiful to look at, but it sounds fantastic.
Unique bright sound from the round backs... Bought as a gift for my son; I've owned an LX for more than 10 years, and he reaches for it first when we play together... I expect that he'll take a similar liking to this version. Test drive: I like the indentations on the back - they keep the instrument from wiggling around (the ROUND round backs take some getting used to, as they rock with your arm movements...). The instrument projects well 'unplugged,' but shines through the amps, can 'play rough,' and functions well in a group setting (doesn't pick up other instruments/drums).

It plays so easy. Like an electric. But it has a beautiful acoustic sound.

When it arrived I was very pleased with the appearance of the guitar but I thought the action was a a little on the high side. I loosened the strings and found that the factory had shims under the bridge so I removed one of them and it plays like a charm now. The tone is great acoustically or plugged in. I would recommend this guitar to anyone that is in need of a great instrument at a fair price.
