I bought this particular tablet/e-reader for my mother as a Christmas gift. She was absolutely thrilled when she unwrapped it, and has continued to be with her fairly regular use of it for podcasts and books. I will be honest and say that I have ended up "borrowing" it on more than one occasion for YouTube and Netflix, and although this is not a particularly powerful piece of hardware, it more than does the job. The interface is very simple, and though the location for some things might not be considered "intuitive" (the settings menu in particular), it's been easy enough for my mother to navigate without feeling like she needs my help at every turn. The reader programmed into this is also excellent, though I suppose that is a bit of a given, as that is where Barnes & Noble really excels with their handheld devices. No lagging, easy to use, and the perfect amount of customization for the text to make your reading experience as pleasant as possible. I'm also very impressed with the battery life on this thing -- even if I watch videos for a few hours straight unplugged, I can't recall having to do any mad dashes for the charge cord in the past few months it has been in my family's possession. Also fantastic for my mother, who normally forgets to plug in her phone and laptop until notifications begin to pop up. Overall, this is a fantastic device. I would like to repeat that it is by no means a powerful one, but it works as it should without any trouble for the user. More importantly, it has made my mother's life easier and a little more pleasant, and I'm very happy to have purchased this for her.Read full review
The 7 inch Nook HD is plagued, I have discovered, with battery draw problem! In reading on the Web from the B&N FAQ's, there are a lot of complaints with poor battery life per charge once the Nook HD is upgraded to later firmware. I found no solutions just try this and maybe it will help stuff. Anyway a day after purchase the unit also got to the 99% level and just stopped working. This forced more reading and I made the decision to do a hard reboot. It takes some time to reload all the firmware. After having to do a hard reboot, I went on Google play and found a battery manager app, that seems to solve the drain issue. Strange that B&N would do something to upgrade firmware, add Google play and in the same move make the firmware eat battery time. Strange mentality! If I were doing this again, I would avoid a B&N device that is restricted in capability and would avoid buying a Nook branded device. A company, that is not strictly in the business of making computers as the primary business function, just is not geared for value and quality in my opinion.Read full review
The nook is great for all kinds of reading. You can adjust the brightness, the font and font size. This is my 3rd one. Love it.

The color was my first and am still loyal to the nook product. This is a great size - very portable and fits in most handbags.

I bought this to replace my first generation Nook with the graphite screen. I had dropped it and the screen messed up, so I thought it was time to upgrade. The Nook HD is amazing! It's easy to use, crystal clear and so lightweight I can carry it anywhere!
