Very poor driver support. Camera simply would not work on Windows 7/8/10. No driver support what-so-ever. Would work only intermittently on some Linux distros. So, if you want to use an OS other than Windows Vista / XP, then the built-in camera will render itself useless. This Acer laptop is a huge disappointment!

I have had several of these laptops in my brick and mortar PC store. While they are affordable, and some have great features like a SATA interface (on the Vista stickered models), dual core and 64 bit capable CPUs and are upgradeable to 4 GB of DRR2, they are very cheaply made. An even larger draw back is that some of them still have an IDE drive interface (mainly the XP branded ones) and that the battery life isn't as good as newer laptops. Stay away from the IDE models as they have major issues with the DVD drive bay interface quitting. At a time when new laptops were well over $500 these could be bought new for less than $250. That should tell you about the quality. Many of the Acer Aspire 3000 and 5000 series share the same problematic motherboard that is prone to overheating issues too. They seem to handle some operating systems with no real issues but drivers are not out there for any OS newer than Windows 7. (Windows 8/8.1 and 10 will work but is buggy at best and would be advised to be avoided). Overall I'd say these little machines have aged quite poorly and are best used as parts.Read full review
