The XPPF is a low-pass filter that blocks signal suckers and noise generators from impacting X10 automation system operation. It is quite effective isolating relatively low current devices, like CFL and LED lights, modular power supplies, computers, and most A/V equipment. While rated 5 amps, it does get warm and begins to smell when pushed that hard continuously. But it is perfect for lower current loads. Also note that some loads have a low power factor, and will cause considerably more dissipation in the filter than the power consumption leads you to believe. The XPPF is not appropriate for higher current loads, such as major appliances, and powerful gaming computers. But every X10 user should have a couple of these handy in to deal with those "unfriendly" devices.
