I was interested in something that I can take with me on short trips and wouldn't take up much room in my suitcase. I liked the adaptability of it being able to support an Mp3 player and that it automatically set time as soon as you plugged it in. I was kind of hoping for a battery back up, but no. There are two alarm settings. It's kind of strange how they set it up, but I guess it works. There is one set of buttons on the left and one on the right. The nature sounds are okay, but for the inexpensive speakers, The display doesn't seem too over bright, and has three settings for that. The radio section seemed to be a second thought, as there isn't much to do about that. The volume up and down goes to 30, which might only be a 10 or 12 with a regular am/fm radio. There is a place for to add an am antenna. So, all in all I guess for a background noise machine, I am willing to give it a try.Read full review

Once I got this item running, it took 45 minutes to figure out even with instructions and I still can't figure out how to adjust alarm volume so I gave up, it lit up like a bare bulb. Even in the "low" mode, it emits a harsh blue light on me in the bed. If you turn off the display and wake up in middle of night, you have to manually turn on the light so you can see the time. This clock is really for the birds, and appropriately enough it makes bird sounds to wake up by. You won't need them however because you'll be kept awake at night thinking about how your money was wasted on this inferior product. Maybe I can sell it for a couple of bucks on craigslist. I doubt anyone would be dumb enough to buy one of these if they actually saw it in person. To add insult, the seller advertised a price with "shipping included" but the package came $5.98 postage due, more money down the drain. Note: Seller has since refunded all my money, so I highly recommend this ethical and buyer friendly seller, a great guy. I'm fed up and went back to my old clock, at least it works and doesn't blind me while trying to sleep. Oh, almost forgot. This has an antennae that you have to manually place in the right position to get AM reception, AFTER you hook up the bare wires to the connector on the back of the clock. Can you believe SONY would make such a dud? I only gave it one star because you can't give zero, too bad in this case. It's a zero, definitely not a hero!Read full review

I got this clock radio because last week I woke up at noon to discover my old clock radio had lost its audio output entirely. I wanted something with dual "tag team" capable alarms and digital tuning. This unit has quite a few options and settings, and it is best to download the manual at the beginning, since some of the button combinations are non-intuitive if you are familiar only with another brand. Once past the initial learning curve, it proved to have excellent radio sensitivity and selectivity, able to pull out a very weak station from between two much stronger ones on both FM and AM. The clock is fairly easy to set if you read the manual first. The "weekday / weekend" modes are wonderful, so we night owls can revert to our natural circadian rhythm on days off without having to reconfigure the alarm every Friday and Sunday night. The sound is a little weak if one sleeps with fans or air conditioner or other white noise. I wish the sound were at least 6 to 10 decibels louder straight out of the box to punch through that background noise floor when necessary. I wish it had an external audio output jack, so that one could plug in a set of amplified speakers for that extra punch in the morning, or even a Marshall guitar amplifier cranked up to eleven. The nature sounds are a nice feature, especially to fall asleep to. They are even harder to hear with fairly mild background white noise, and really could use a wider range of volume to better customize to your specific circumstances. The audio input feature adds a whole new level of flexibility to this alarm clock. You can record anything from jackhammers to Civil Defense alert tones onto an MP3 player on an endless loop as necessary to get the difficult job of waking up done. This lets you change alarm noises as often as on a nightly basis if you're a hard core night owl who quickly becomes desensitized to various alarm noises. Or you can feed audio from almost anything imaginable so you hear it only at the proper time, on cue. I will probably buy at least 2 or 3 more of these units. One to set staggered about 10 minutes from the first to act like a tag team. One for the office to not miss a favorite talk radio program.Read full review
The Sony unit has many features not available on other clock radios, such as dual alarms, good AM/FM reception, and nature sounds. The date/time set, radio preset and selection is not easy to use. The clear display of time and temperature is a plus with it's brightness selection.

It's a solid alarm clock and easy to use. I love the nature sounds alarm. The backlit display can be awfully bright even on the low setting and still difficult to read from certain angles when the room lights are off. I prefer the old style alarm clock displays.
