I purchased this unit used in good condition. It may not have as many features as more current models but has plenty of options and outputs. It's a replacement to an older rca htib reusing the small inexpensive cube satellites so not a fair judge for 'sound quality' (dependent on speakers). The center speaker was upgraded and definitely better than the speakers it replaced. A great value upgrade over htib solutions. Just keep in mind it's not a brand new Onkyo or a $1200 receiver. Provides true 5.1 surround with separate channels vs cheaper options which only split stereo through multiple speakers. Not currently connected to my sub because the sub is passive and as is common with this type of receiver it only sends audio to the sub out channel. Requires either an active sub or use of an amp. Not a con since that's pretty standard but something to keep in mind. Paired up with my directv remote just fine. Display is a subdued amber which is nice for low light use without distracting from the tv (ie no harsh brilliant blue or other distractions). Read full review

Everything is easy enough to use. I have very sensitive ears so sound quality is paramount. I find the sound needs to be cleaner. I detect a sharpness I don't hear in other amps. Great value for the price but have relegated to the thrift store. Would buy from this vendor again.

This unit is a good entry level receiver with plenty of inputs. It has alot of sound fields and plenty of options for setting up number of speakers, placement, distance etc. The only drawback I found was it doesn't have an audio output for the TV. So if you hook up a cable/satellite receiver or a DVD player, the only audio that can be had is thru this system. Some poeple may like that, but I don't always want the sound coming thru this system, sometimes I prefer just the audio coming thru the TV speakers. But using RCA Y-adapters seems to solve that problem. Remote is normal with normal buttons. Gotta watch the speaker wire gauge as heavy gauge will not fit into the speaker slips on the back.
Well, first of all I need to thank the vendor for sending such a thoughtful letter; on how to help and what to do in the event that I was having problems. So, a big thanks for that! I had to get a little creative to make my antiquated speakers work. The only thing I was not happy with was my own sub woofer! It's a dud! Worked good with the Panasonic receiver, not so good with the Yamaha. Simply because it is not an active sub woofer! That will be my next investment! I'll call the vendor to see if he has one lying around! The music sounds gorgeous and despite not having a booming sub woofer, the movies sound just as dramatic! I am very happy and pleased! Thanks!
