PLOT: BASED on Real life King Edward who gave up his throne to marry an American Divorcee Wallis Simpson~ BBC does it right~ Prince Edward is the next in line for the British Throne and is busy having affairs with married women~ Edward Fox is very good as the handsome playboy who has married American Wallis capture his attention. Soon Edward pursues her inspite of husband and his title~ as he becomes KING he continues to become more and more in love with and involved with Mrs Simpson who is in the middle of a very messy divorce~ Edward soon finds that his own wishes to marry Wallis (that is her name) involve the goverment and english law. and HOW far Edward went to achieve his marriage, yet failed. This 2 DVD set is good but drags at times. the last 2 hours are the very BEST when Edward (known as DAVID) to his family and friends makes his fateful choice to give up the THRONE to marry the now free Mrs. Simpson. Cynthia Harris is good at the clever and witty Wallis. What makes this more ironic is the Divorced Prince Charles and remarried may someday have some of the same issues but times have changed opinion and the ability to be happy. Also included in this set is the Biography from A&E of Mrs. Simpson which is also excellent. WORTH THE WATCH AND I GIVE THIS DVD VERSON A SOLID 9 OUT OF 10 FOR MINISERIES TO WATCH. Fun and interesting and informative of history! Also loved the Wallace Simpson biography extra at the end of the last disk.

If you watch the special feature: a biography of Wallis Simpson, you'll realize how carefully the cast was chosen for this historical drama. The actors are oh-so-British, with barely a hint of passion, (which is certainly reserved for the bedroom, where the viewer is NOT invited)but strong feelings evident throughout. It's realistic, it's history portrayed realistically -- it doesn't get any better than this.
This series was not finished because it was more like a play than a production.

I was interested in this movie because it was based on a true story, but I found it hard to keep my attention on the storyline. It had a lot of repetition on the facts and it became irritating that the same facts were presented over and over. The actors were not convincing in their portrayal of unwavering love for eachother. I had a hard time seeing how the King to be would give up his throne for what appeared in my opinion to be such an obviously conniving woman..
