For such a simple inexpensive device, it works. A bit clunky, lacking clear instructions, some hardware knowledge required to get working. It seems the power up sequence is a bit tricky, sometimes requiring more than one try. Jumper settings on drive may require changing. Cable select setting does not work. Both MASTER and Slave drive settings appear to work. After some tinkering I was able to access several old hard-drives and recovered much data i thought lost. So far I've only used it successfully on IDE. In summation, for under ten dollars, you might be able to recover data from a dead computer without expensive data recovery or computer repair on an old unit you've already replaced. Recommended for users with moderate technical knowledge.

I have several of these cables. I find that I can use the IDE cable one time. But if you are trying to recover pictures or other important information off of and old drive these are worth the money. I was able to recover pictures from a Win Me ( fat 32 ) drive and others. Of course they will work with any IDE drive and I did use it one time with a satat drive also. Like I said these cables are good for a ONE time use. You must have everything read to go before plugging in the USB cable. This includes having the Power cable plugged into the hard drive and your PC running. This is the only way I can get this to work. After I power down the IDE cable will not work again. The power supply keeps on going no problem there.

After reading numerous reviews of this item that say it's fragile or it only works one time before the pins break, etc..,I was excepting to be disappointed. But maybe I got a good one from the batch I don't know, but I've used it without issue on multiple 2.5s and 3.5. both SATA and IDE. I love this thing. It arrived missing one of the four female pin jackets in the molex to SATA cable, and I thought, oh no, here we go. But it hasn't made any noticeable difference in usability. I've been using this adapter daily for almost a week, and I love it. If course, I am gently with it and make sure I an lining the pins up in the correct way, but I'd expect to do the same. I highly recommend this product because at that price, even if it turned out to be a rock, I wouldn't cry a river...probabltnjustva tiny puddle because I was to get these hard drives processed asap. With this adapter, that is exactly what I'm doing.Read full review

It works fine so far. I have had a problem but it may be my glued up hard drive. It's not the greatest quality, but is in line with the price and for temporary and occasional use its acceptable. The "yes" to "is it good quality" is qualified with "for the price".The power connector is a little too cheap and I had to wiggle the metal connectors inside to get it to go over the pins. For my current use I would buy it again.

I got two these and used them to update the storage space on my TiVo. Installed fast and easy to setup. Price was right as well. Should be able to use this for doing backups with older IDE drive I have laying around.
