This camera is everything I have ever wanted in a digital camera since my first Kodak with a floppy drive! Its small, lightweight, holds THOUSANDS of pictures at once and takes phenomenal pictures. The face recognition technology blows my mind, and the icing on the cake is when the camera notifies you that someone has blinked. Pros: -Extremely lightweight and small -Best 10MP pictures Ive ever seen or taken -Large display -Face recognition and blink notification Cons: -No optical viewfinder -Screen it a bit difficult to see in direct sunlight -No touch screen The pros far outweigh the cons on this one. An optical viewfinder I can do without, but I have seen similar cameras that were easier to view in direct sunlight. Most cameras are far worse though. I believe newer versions have a touch screen, its not a necessity but definitely a strong want for a tech geek like myself. I was able to purchase this camera as a refurb for only $95. At the time, the 14MP version was the newest model and sells for upwards of $325. My brother has the 12MP and after comparing pictures taken in the same settings, we can tell absolutely no difference at 100% resolution. If you can snag this camera before the price starts to fall on the 12MP I would suggest it, otherwise hold out for the 12MP to come down around $100, I hear it has a couple different features.Read full review
Time to first picture after turning on camera is good (about 2 seconds). Good cycle time between pictures (less than a second). Flash recovers quickly, (under 2 sec). There is a very short delay between the time the button is pushed and the picture is taken. Almost as fast as my SLR. With just a little practice, I found it easy to capture great action shots. Camera is small and easy to carry, but not too small to use easily. I am over 6ft and have pretty big hands. Others have said the memory card is hard to remove, but I had no problems removing and reinserting the card. I considered spending the extra $$ for the 7x zoom version of the coolpix camera and am glad I didn't. The 5x zoom brings things plenty close, and if it zoomed in any closer, it would be hard for me to keep the camera steady enough to take a clear picture (without a tripod). I highly recommend this camera.Read full review
Having read a few reviews on this camera, i wondered if it was going to be a perfect fit or a problem. It's great. The biggest complaint I read was relating to the memory card removal being difficult. I don't think so. Haven't had any issues that reading the manual didn't resolve. Most of the features are simple enough to figure out. The zoom feature even tells you when the zoom is going to have an adverse affect on picture quality. Not quite idiot proof, but very helpful. I didn't pay anywhere near retail for this Nikon, but even if I had this would still be a good value. At the default setting of 10MP, you get over 1500 photos on a 4Gig card. The camera offers many other setings down to 1MP, and a higher setting as well. Having owned only two other digital cameras, I am far from an expert. I can, however say that this camera compares well with the Olympus I previously owned and is well worth the price paid. Having a child graduating soon, I didn't want to trust my memory to remember those special moments. This is definitely an item I would recommend to others.Read full review
I wanted a camera that was easy to use, small enough to carry with me, took good quality pictures and could zoom in and not lose quality. This little camera does all of that for me. I attend quite a few concerts and the camera comes with a small case that goes right onto your belt. It is fantastic to not have to worry about carrying a purse or having it fall out of a pocket. You will need to make sure you get another battery and carry it with you. Although a fully charged battery tends to last quite a while it still isn't long enough to get through all the pictures I take during a concert. I took it to our family Christmas celebration and had it on my belt so I didn't have to look for where I had laid it down or be concerned about small children playing with it. Definitely worth the money.
I bought two of these cameras recently, because I owned one previously. I broke the previous one by falling on it. This camera takes clear in focus pictures. Easy for a novice to use, has lots of good options for the more advanced user.Battery lasts quite a while, all though I all ways carry a spare with me. Old camera lasted me about 3 years, heavy, heavy use, carried around in shirt pocket, pants pocket, hanging off turn signal handle in truck. Dropped more than a few times. Left in snow overnight once. I finally did start having a problem with the lens not extending out all the way for zoom shots. Most likely this was caused either by dirt having found it's way into the lens mechanism, or by being dropped one time too many. About the only thing I dislike about the camera, is the sound recording option. To me serves little useful purpose, since can not record sound and shoot still pictures at same time. I kind of hate to recommend the camera, since I intend to buy me a couple more to have as spares for years to come, and I don't need the buying competition. But, I believe it's an excellent little camera. I might consider a newer one, but for keeping with you all the time, this is the one to go with.Read full review
