I bought a used body for the specific purpose of using my numnerous old OM1 lenses on a reasonably sized format digital camera. I find that I dont need more than 7.5 megs. Most of the time I am using much lower size pics. I paid 200 which was very good value for money. My old OM1 lenses are acting at approx 1.6 x focal length so my old 50 mm Zuiko is now effectively approx 85 mm My old 28mm is now effectively circa 50mm It has rekindled my interest in photography. Using it as a manual camera I have had to re-learn all the old 1/16th exposure rules and I am getting quite good at it. Initially I was using bracketed exposures with 2/3 steps, so I stood a good chance of getting at least one of the three right. Now I am judging the light conditions almost right without the need for bracketting. It is fun to use. Not for anybody who wants to point and shoot. You have to think about it and you cant put it in your top pocket. It is relatively heavy which in my opinion helps reduce camera shake. You cant put it in your top pocket. Good battery life. Good direct and bounce flash features. I use preview a lot so dont use (and therefore am not too fussed about) the rather restricted viewfinder. Very good manual focussing system. You can get it dead right by expanding the view 4x or 10x whilst you focus before taking the shot. I put in an 8Gig HDSD card and that for me is much too big. I will never use that amount of memory. I think the more modern and M4/3's are much more compact than this but of course they are costing 3-4 times as much. This is worth considering if you have old SLR lenses lying around. If you need very high quality high meg pixel pictures, i.e. you intedn to do a lot of cropping and blowing up, then 7.5M probably is not enough for you. Good experience.Read full review
This is a great four-thirds digital SLR camera that produces stunning images. I bought it because it can take the Panasonic - Leica 14-50mm zoom lens and the Olympus Macro 35 mm lens among many other lenses. The size is perfect -- not too big and not too small. It is light weight as well. The built in strobe can do both direct and bounce flash which is a nice feature that many other cameras do not have. The image quality is excellent.
A hidden gem, the Leica lens makes all the difference giving off a quality to the images the Kodachrome used to give. A high quality film like appearance, not the feel of digital.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
A REAL digital camera, superb construction, layout, features. Firmware update v2.0 enhances useage. Doesn't pander to beginners with scene modes - if you have a camera like this who needs em anyway??? 7.5 megapixels more than plenty - a crap photo with 10 megapixels is still a crap photo!!! Colour as true to life as you can get exposure good but tends to overcook the highlights a little(just set exposure comp at -1/3ev. Lots of features to get your head round but overall very easy to use if you have done photography before 35mm or digital.
This camera is capable of producing preposterously good photos. The lens is as clear, sharp and contrasty as any lens made today. Lens and camera are both extremely well made and engineered. The pop up flash is well designed to work direct or as a ceiling bounce. Complaints about the viewfinder being somewhat dim are valid but not a deal breaker. The menus are easy to figure out even without the manual. The camera is especially intuitive if you’re used to working with film SLR’S. I found complaints of noise at higher ISO unfounded; at 800, noise was not greater than a Canon 40D. However, this is not a great camera for low light situations when the flash is needed. The focus assist is worthless beyond about 8 feet. My Lumix point and shoot flashes every time I press the shutter, regardless of lighting conditions, so what’s up with the L-1? Aside from that 1 serious flaw, this is an amazingly well built camera with exceptional glass, and reason enough to buy.Read full review
