The i7 quad CPU was one of my purchase considerations. Age of machine contributed to a lower price. All my laptops are 17 inch because of my age and are AMD based - my eyes need the larger print without losing screen content. Basically, there is the weight trade off and portability issue but I treat the machine as workstation that I'm free to move about. I have had three servers that were dell and they were very reliable. Most of the servers had dual screens and had multiple xenon CPU versions with SCSI disks. I view myself as a programmer. I like the machine interface - fingering etc. I dislike the use of the bright polished finish. The glare from sun and lights causes some eye strain and distraction. A mat finish on the open plastic would have been useful. I regret not looking for an SSD hard drive. I intend to move the current hard drive to a USB at some point. I feel the i7 quad CPU is slowed down by the disk I/O lookup etc. I would like to have had a Nvidia GPU - only the I3 version comes with the GPU - I choose the higher rated CPU version. I like the screen in both the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and windows 8.1 mode of operation.Read full review

The computer performs very well. It is fast. The screen is large and I can read it easily. I love the number pad included on the keyboard and the tying is quiet and smooth.

Needed a big and cheap laptop really quick to do my work on and this suited me really well. I only wish it came with a quad processor.
