These are a really good deal now if you can get one for low enough; sometimes they show up in decent condition for under $300 when it was originally a $1600+ monitor. Ebay finds on this monitor are sometimes still with original parts, sometimes reconditioned. There are a lot of them out there and spare parts available so it's a reasonable investment in a well supported product. The 90 degree rotation ability works great in Windows but is not well supported under Linux. It basically worked in portrait/vertical orientation under Linux (I put two of them side by side for major document editing) but the timing or pixel pitch or something was off so it had some jumpiness. Not the monitor's fault but more just the fact that Linux display drivers are not quite as well developed for unusual uses. Anyway, do what you like on Windows, and on Linux you should plan to use this monitor horizontally (landscape). The only gotchas I can think of are: (1) you probably knew this or didn't care, but the color can drift a little and this should not be your single professional monitor for design or photo or art use. But it's great for software developers, writers, etc. and good enough for gaming even without the ultra-low response time of more recent units. (2) Power consumption is a bit high, around 100 watts. (3) The highest type of input is DVI-I. If you're running HDMI or DisplayPort video you would need a dongle/adaptor to use this monitor.Read full review
i did some recon when i knew i was in the market for a new Monitor. Having had Apple Studio displays for the last few years i was spoiled with their Excellent units. i had heard Samsung made great displays as well. i checked out reviews on line and and the praise for this monitor was almost universal. Gamer's, video heads, graphic design folks all raved. my unit certainly lived up to the props it was showered with. not only is it a Excellent monitor but i saved at least $150 over a similar Apple unit always a plus.
The picture is great excellent for PC or DVD with a powered USB hub as well. Great color and contrast. Looks good on the desk adjustable for height and tilt as well as orientation.
