This is my favorite Didion; I reread it at least once a year. The prose really sticks with you and many of Joan's icy, resonant sentences come back to haunt me often. The title essay plus "On Morality", and "Los Angeles Notebook" rank among the greatest pieces of nonfiction ever recorded, and several others are not far behind. LOVE the original cover art on this edition, too. A must-read for those who like their history with a twist...and a load of style and talent.

One exciting bit of life after another keeps the reader transfixed, and resenting any breaks in reading for things like sleeping, or eating, or working. An amazing compilation of Didion's finest work including what amounts to a history of the Sixties in the title essay, "Slouching Towards Bethlehem," and a great essay on John Wayne as well as essays on other human interest tales.

This edition of the classic Joan Didion is a must have, in any serious library. This collection of essays from Didion is one of the best prose ever written. This picador edition is just awesome! Beautifull to look at too! Small enough to fit in your pocket, yet unique enough to look good on your book shelf. I would recommend this book to anyone.
