This older 'Palmcorder' is a great mix of old-school reliabilty & ahead of it's time function & features. I've had one of these in my studio for a long time, but simply forgot about it until I needed something in a pinch - as always, it came through for me. I came here to find another battery to replace the original one that came with the camera, but to my surprise, I found a complete outfit for under a hundred bucks. The battery that came with the "new" unit was worse than the one I already had, but this was finally remedied at another site. The only knock I have on this camcorder is that - the battery - it never lasts as long as I would like, but with VHS-C tape getting harder & herder to find, I suppose this little gem is running out of time anyhow. In the meanwhile, I'll go ahead & stock-up on tape & batteries for the two of these I have now & see just how long I can make them last...My guess is that if I had enough batteries & tape, they would BOTH 'Outlive' me. 4 & 1/2 stars from this user.Read full review
The Panasonic Palmcorder PV-L559 is not such a bad little vhs-c camcorder. It comes with loads of features and the lcd screen in very handy. The video capture quality is very good and the microphone records superb audio. The light that it has is very bright, and the back light seems to do the job. The only issue I have with it is that it does not have a independent audio jack/mic input. So the only audio capture source is the built in mic. The camera is not as light as a DV-recorder but its not too heavy for a VHS-C. The one I bought had a bad battery but you can buy them on the net for about $15-20, and the newer manufactured batteries are now Li-on Lithium Ion. which are far superb to the original lead base batteries. It also comes with a handy little mini remote that works great, it starts and stops play and record as well as zooms, and fast forward and reverse. If you want a way to make some videos and are on a tight budget I recommend this camcorder. You can buy one for around $15-20 and buy a brand new battery (if you need to) for about the same. If you want to transfer your video to your PC all you need is an Easycap converter (RCA to USB) you can buy one of those converters here on Ebay for about $10. For what it is and what it does for the cost I give it 9/10Read full review
It is exciting to have a Panasonic Palmcorder. It's so light, easy to use, the tapes can be easily used viewed with a PlayPak or attachments. Easy to carry and store. It's nice to still be able to own and use an item like this. And not have to rely on today's computer or cell phone based recording systems that can not be easily viewed by multiple people. Fantastic! And other spare items for it are availible on Ebay!
Best of the last generation vcr-c camcorders, well built right size ,not built in China:-) Only a slight difficuty obtaing acc.'s you can find what you need online. Have been taken over by the digital unit;s of which I have one and am not impressed with. The vhs-c's were/are the perfect size, cost effective, and does everything for a lot less money.
Very good product to use to make old style movies. Fun to use.
