I was looking for a B-Cam to use with my Canon T2i when I was researching this camera. I ended up buying the HF S20 because I have kept my eye on the HF S100 for years. The reason I picked up the cam was because this model will capture 24P natively and has an 1/8 mic input. As far as I know, this is the 1st in the HF S line that will shoot native. The cam is turning out to be more of a personal camcorder then a B Cam so I can't really comment on footage shot with the HF S20 against the T2i at this time. Just haven't had a project to use this cam on. What I can say is, this cam is killer when setup in the Native 24p using the Cinema Gamma setting. The Menu takes a second to understand just how deep you can go to setup the cam. Once you take the time to fiddle with ever single setting, I am sure you will find the best setting for YOUR personal needs. I dig on the film look but, I did shoot some with the cam set to the 60i and it looks like pristine reality. Not my flavor but it's a crisp, clean look that pushes what look you can achieve with the latest high refresh rates on the latest flat screens. Over all, I am happy with my purchase. One thing to remember is interfacing with the cam is through the touch screen. There are literally 5 or 6 buttons to press on the exterior of the cam which have very simple actions. I come from the Panasonic DVX 100/100A/100B so I was looking for more UI on the exterior of the cam, so look to the flip out (touch) screen menu for the most access to the cam. With the huge 32gig internal storage I haven't even used the 32 gig SD card I have in slot 1 of the 2 SD slots on the cam. I also picked up a battery kit from ebay. Don't expect anything more then turning on the cam and shooting 30 min. of footage with the battery included with the package to test the cam. Take the plunge... upgrade. My gaol with the cam at this point is to see how the flat settings of the cam will integrate with Resolve and see how the footage will look after a CC pass. Still need to concur this process with Resolve. If I get there, i'll post more info... P.S. I also bought the Canon WD-H58 Wide Converter Lens (0.7x) - you don't need the .8. For $250 you can get a lot more in the frame for that "wide angle look". http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/618336-REG/Canon_3572B001_WD_H58_Wide_Converter_Lens.htmlRead full review
Excellent product! Love it! Great video quality, easy to use, nice design. I have had multiple digital phone cameras,- and have had not any problems, and the quality was always superb. Recommend this product to anyone, who would like to use it as a prosumer product. As the set of features and the quality is better than any other comparable product from a different brand. Originally I wanted to purchase Canon Vixia HF s21, but it was much more expensive. S21 has 32GB more memory and the view finder (which I do not use anyhow), but for the money difference I got 5 32GB transcend flash cards that are capable of recording 24b/s.
I haven't any experience doing anything with camcorders so finding one that measured up to my expectations in my price range was something I would have to work up to. As with some purchases like this one it was made on impulse but something stood out a little more than others did. Until after I received it did I understand what I had. When I first turned it on the image on the screen blew me away. Sharp and clear and I knew then that this was going to be a quality piece of equipment, and it is! I don't understand why the camcorder when I turn it on says that it can't communicate with the battery and then asks it I would like to procede. After proceeding there are no problems as of yet and only a thrill of being able to capture such excellent video footage. I have always liked Canon products but this made me really appreciate them a whole lot more.Read full review
I already have this camera, and purchased a second one for my job. This camera has two card slots for extra money, which is awesome. The two slots allow me to easily record for the whole day without having to stop and clear the hard drive on the camera. There is a lot of options in the menus for setting up the camera to your personal preference. The touch screen is easy to work. I love this camera, best consumer camera I have purchased.
I purchased this camera because of its great quality, simplicity and great price. Also because of its compact size, which makes it easy to manage physically.
