Strout's characters become so real that I easily see actors in them. Wouldn't Laura Linney be the perfect mother here? And wouldn't Jeff Daniels be Rev. Cheskey in her book Abide with Me? They just come to life and I miss them when I finish the book.
I recently read Olive Kitteridge and was curious if Strout's other books' prose was of the calibre of Olive; I am pleased to write that Amy and Isabelle is quite good even tho the subject matter is of more interest to women.
This was a story about a mother raising a daughter by herself. I thought it was boring and didn't finish it.
