I recently traveled to Virginia, D.C., New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This bag was perfect for me, my laptop, its accessories, snacks, etc. It fit in the plane's overhead compartment, but was slightly tough to get it under the seat in front of me. It's roomy enough for my 17" laptop but here's a tip: If you saved the box that your laptop came in, cut he ends off of one of the styrofoam packing inserts. Place it at the bottom of the laptop's "laptop area" and you'll have even more protection for when the backpacks hits hard ground. The side pockets were perfect for my GPS and MP3 & headphones. About the only thing missing is a loop to tie things to with a carabiner. This is the perfect commuter bag but you might want something larger if you would also need a bag for day hikes.

I bought one 20 years ago, I was so pleased with it, I bought another one recently. It was almost like the one I bought before. The reason I looked for and bought another one 20 years later, was the design, the durability and because it held up so well, I will put the older one in semi-retirement and use it for other things.
