I bought this board to do an extreme budget build, I used some old XMS 2 DHX ddr2 6400, and 2 gts450's in SLI with a Core 2 Duo E8400, all of which can be found under 400 bucks on here. I had originally built it to prove that the "next gen" consoles are a pile of steamy crap, but have since turned it into my daily machine, as its still pretty quick and it games at a damn good speed even in the newer games that have been coming out. I'm able to get 70FPS on high settings in ESO, and I can max Bioshock Infinite out and get 60 to 70 FPS on full max I'm also able to get Metal gear rising to full max and keep up to 60fps. personally I'm putting all that power on this board, older PC's and the boards often had bottlenecks on the board and gimped parts, but this board is a shining example of a performance class board, it may be a bit old now but I'm giving most midrange gaming PC's a run for their money on a board that really shouldn't be used for gaming anymore, due largely to the fact that it uses DDR2 which is quite old in 2014. the temps on this board on side intake air cooling with a chinese heatpipe cpu cooler and the optional fan hooked to the northbridge chip, this machine idles at 32c and runs 40c give or take at full load, and thats with it overclocked to 3.56ghz. thats the one thing I believe is the selling point on this board aside from being able to run SLI, this board overclocks like a champ and the entire Core 2 cpu series all the way up to the extremes is supported by this board on the latest bios version, all of which are able to reach 4ghz with the proper cooling. speaking of the bios I was actually able to find a version of the custom bios logo software that works perfectly with windows 8.1. This machines drivers may be old and locked down to vista but if you extract the ones that don't work out of the box and install them manually this board works just fine on 8.1. the only real problem I have with this board is the sound card, it works in windows 8.1 just fine but I cant stand the poor quality, its not noticeable unless you try to hook this system to a big stereo or any type of logictech surround, at the higher volumes the onboard card has a horrible hiss and popping sound. Fortunately the ASUS XONAR is pretty cheap to find now on ebay, and popping one of those on a slot makes a hell of a difference. Compared to DDR3 boards with the same CPU, and the ones with the newer CPU's this board is starting to get a bit old but its still able to put up one hell of a fight with current midrange gaming PC's and can still beat out most anything you can find from one of the mainstream PC makers. As long as you can find this board at a decent price, its worth running even at its age, the parts made around the time this was new are still pretty powerful and able to be gotten on the cheap now. and its PCIe 2.0 so any new GPU that supports SLI will run in a pair on this board due to it being a full Nvidia chipset. you could stack 2 760 Ti's in this if you really wanted to and with a Core 2 Extreme this would still be able to game like a pro.Read full review
I really like the Asus P5N-D motherboards, they are very stable and reliable. "Actually I prefer Asus mother boards in general." They seem to be more stable and bulletproof than some of the others. I have built several computers with the P5N-D motherboards and have never experienced a problem with any of them. Some of the other brands that I have worked with can present a real challenge with memory compatibility issues and drivers.
I bought this as a replacement motherboard for another ASUS P5N-D motherboard that was dying. With the original board, the onboard LAN went out within the first two years. Soon after, it was not possible to enter the Bios on the board. Finally, after about 5 years of use, SATA port number stopped functioning. I have had a few problems with the original P5N-D motherboard, I'm just hoping this replacement serves a little better.
Awesome board worked perfect lots of features for the price you can not beat what you get out of this product. I like the socket 775 and all the processor options including quad core. With a SSD hard drive this is a extremely fast computer. I built 3 of them and wish I had more of them they're fun to put together and they post first time with no problem.
This Motherboard has to be the best all around socket 775 board around....Asus the best name in computer components out did themselves with this board....easy to install, long lived I have bought 6 of them over the years.....you cannot go wrong if you need a socket 775 board anywhere.....
