I am not a gamer, so I cannot comment on games. I am using the kindle for email, ebooks from the library, youtube, netflixs and craigslist. My wife was in the hospital and I was too tired to read, so I installed the Netflix app and watched TV shows for six hours straight before I had to plug in the kindle. I consider that excellent battery life. The screen is very bright and the colors contrast nicely. I am very happy with my purchase and since I bought it I have only turned on my lap top once, to fill out a form and print. Other than that, the Kindle is all I need.

I got this to read my kindle ebooks. First I found out I have to load each of my over 1500 ebooks one at a time. What a waste of time, it takes forever. I want to read in places that do not have wifi. I miss not being able to click on a word for it's definition the way I can on my desk top kindle simulator. The apps on this seem to be mainly games for children which I don't need and when surfing the internet the screen is too small to read the print. It is ok for watching utube videos.

I wasn't happy with my Kobo as during an upgrade I lost all my library books and the Kobo people were very unhelpful. The added features of the Kindle appealed, especially the cloud storage and Wi-Fi connectivity. While it is a lot heavier than my old Kobo the added features including colour make up for this. The screen is comfortable to read and can be easily adjusted to suit the conditions (day/night reading). The page turning is quick and easy (better and faster than the Kobo). Having the built in dictionary is a really great feature. The in-built instructions are a bit vague in places but a guess it's sometimes just having a play and giving it a go to see how it works. I've had it for 3 days and can't quite get the dictionary to automatically look up words in the book I'm reading but I'll keep working on it - it may be I haven't read the instructions properly. Like all new gadgets they take time to learn their features.Read full review
Works well - even in Canada. We can't buy stuff from the Amazon store with a Canadian billing address, but I've loaded lots of .mobi books onto it, and have web and IMDB and FaceBook access from any WiFi hotspot. As I'm sure LOTS of other reviews have said, if buying content is important to you in Canada, then a Canadian tablet my be more your choice, but for me, I have no intention of buying apps, so the Kindle Fire works great. :) Screen is great, battery life it great - my wife reads an hour or two pretty much every day, and it needs charging every week or two. There are a couple minor glitches - for example, if you pinch-zoom and then change rotation, it can un-zoom on you, BUT that's being updated shortly and even in Canada, you still get the OS updates just fine.
Kindle Fire is great for reading ebooks. Everything else might not meet your expectations. Display is too small for reading magazines; Silk browser is very slow; no Flash; MP3 player is not good even if you install a third-party one - there are no hardware volume buttons. And you have access only to Amazon video. No way to use KF for other videos or use any other video player - none of them work properly. CONS: Heavy as a brick. There is no microphone, no Bluetooth, and no camera. No direct access to built-in keyboard in other languages. Internal memory very limited. No external memory. Comes with no accessories at all. PROS: It could be handy for those who are familiar with Android apps and know what they need. Email is convenient, you can use Skype (for messaging only) and you can still use your Fire for a number of home applications even without rooting. However, in a couple of months other manufacturers will be offering similar products at competitive prices with better hardware and more functions, and Kindle Fire will be collecting dust...Read full review
