Well for the price I paid these tiny little speakers are great but notice I said tiny. The down firing subwofer is not very audible if it is on carpet but if it is on a desk or counter then it has a pretty good output. I have these next to my bed to plug in my mp3 player and my laptop and also make a fantastic upgrade to the terrible sound of my built flat panel TV speakers. I would never pay retail for these but for a good price it is a truly great little set of speakers.
Surprisingly good sound for the price! It is not overly loud when turned all the way up so that may be the one downfall but I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a decent set of speakers... I use this set up in my bathroom and it is perfect for my needs and surprisingly has decent bass considering the "subwoofer" is nothing more than a downward facing speaker mounted in a small box.
This little system far exceeded my expectations. They say dynamite comes in small packages and this speaker system is a perfect example. I bought this used for use in my home office. It is hooked up to my laptop and I can honestly say that anything bigger would've been overkill. The Altec Lansing BXR 1221 can be hooked up to anything with a standard earphone jack with an a/c outlet close by as the subwoofer is powered. Boy is it powered! Full range sound is delivered in a space saving design that rivals the big name outfits. I could not have asked for a better system at the more than reasonable price. Anyone looking for a powerful, small speaker system would do well to consider the Altec Lansing BXR1221. I don't believe you'll be disappointed. I sure wasn't!!
This wasn't an impulse by. My roommate has the exact same set, so once I heard them on his HD tv, and had the video games hooked up, I knew this was a solid purchase. The sound is GREAT! And by great, I mean, for the price you find this set on eBay and other similar markets for (30-40 bucks) this is a steal. I got mine for 30, so this was an absolute win. You can crank this set up and it is very clear, I have heard very minimal distortion, if any at all. Once maybe when I was testing the durability of the set. The woofer is down below, so I don't hear or feel much from that, but the two desktop speakers definitely carry the load, and they do it well. I have a 46 inch Aquos LED hooked up to to these two teeny speakers, and my x-box and ps3 going, and I don't use any of the aforementioned goodies without this set on. The only downside is you can't turn the speakers on w/ a roommate. It's manual. If that's the deciding factor, then by all means...Read full review
These were purchased to provide better sound from a Vizio 26" TV that had deservedly gotten poor ratings in that category. There were no audio out jacks, just a headphone jack. The TV sits on a pedestal and the low profile of the main speakers lets them sit in front of the screen and keeps them below viewing level. Since these speakers are powered, the TV's headphone jack was able to provide the audio source. The sound quality is now quite good for a bedroom TV. A Smart Strip SCG3 Energy Saving Power Strip with autoswitching technology turns the speakers on and off with the TV. There is a very bright pilot light on top of the right speaker that was dimmed by a little transparent red tape originally sold for automotive taillight repair.
