Likes: Size (7 inch display) Resistive Screen (being in the few percentage of people who prefer this over capacitive) Ease of use (once rooted) Case & Stylus included Light weight Dislikes: Even with latest adobe update you still can't play flash games (such as facebook games) 800MHz processor and 256MB of RAM (doesn't hold a ton of apps as it is too small of a hard drive) AndExplorer & AndApp Market (removed through rooting, so it is no longer an issue) 2.5mm headphone jack Why I bought it: I wanted a cheap tablet to use at work. I was hauling my laptop back & forth to be able to do tasks like emailing & logging into certain sites that are work related. So I wanted to get something that could fit in my purse. This has worked out wonderfully for me. I can access everything I need to, without leaving my area. On the downside during personal use, I am unable to access facebook games. However I am overall pleased with my purchase. Once rooted, it is a great little tablet. Rooting was necessary due to all of the unlicensed google programs were on it & non-functioning. The rooting removed all of those programs & freed up that space. It installed the Android Marketplace (among other working programs) & I was able to get the apps I was looking for. I've never used a tablet before, so I can not rate it against other tablets. I like this one though. It suits me well. Again I am partial to the resistive screen. I recommend doing your homework before you buy anything. I researched what I was looking for & found it in this tablet. If you are used to capacitive touch screen then this is not the tablet for you. I am looking forward to games & flash updating for the Android systems. I am hoping that being on the 2.1 system that it would be an upgrade & not a whole new purchase. On a personal note. I really enjoy my purchase & I am glad I got it. If you get one be sure to root it. There are how to video tutorials out there. It wasn't too hard to do & the tablet has been a dream since doing it. It is a budget tablet, so don't expect it to be something like an Ipad or you will be disappointed.Read full review
The excellent rating for this "Gen78" is not by any means meant to be a comparison to a high end tablet. This great little 7" tablet is rugged, slim and easy to get used to but its entry level equipment as the price would suggest. Why? No camera, front or back, resistive touch screen(works well enough)no accelerometer(orients the screen to the units attitude),sub optimal inputs(head phone jack requires an adapter that was included with mine but not with those first on the market)mini USB and SD card reader only. High end tablets are going to have all this and more. Many of those are going to be targeting the broadband customer market and tethered to data plans, not so with this unit. I was looking for an low cost tablet with a decent size screen to get familiar with the Android OS. I did a fair amount of homework on tablets before I picked this one so I had and idea what I was getting into. I needed something that would provide a way to evaluate some of the thousands of apps out there for this platform and preferably be fairly customizable. This unit suits that purpose perfectly. Working with a second computer it's easy to locate and apply upgrade patches as they become available over a USB connection. Setting up access to my home WPA2 network was easy though I did have to restart the WiFi adapter once to make it re-scan for available networks. Kind of an overly manual process but a power saving one in the long run. My office WPA enterprise connection is more challenging. There is no way to put in the necessary variables to make it connect. However amongst all those apps out there is a promising looking WiFi enhancement tool. Another chance to modify and test. As for the form factor, it's true what they about the mini-SD card slot. Nothing in the manual describes how to insert the card, i.e. which side up and once it's in there, it may be there for good. I bought a 16GB card for mine before it arrived and think that its a requirement for this unit. Gold pins face up by the way. If one were hoping to have an out of the box no hassle experience you'd be disappointed with this tablet. Out of the box you can easily get your email, web browse and so on but it would be better to jump into the $300 plus market to edge into those units that will satisfy those looking for a ready to go tablet experience. For everyone else, keep up the good work creating the sites, apps and sharing information about the Augen GenTouch 78.Read full review
I bought because I wanted a bigger tablet than my iPod Touch. I know that the Gentouch had its issues with Google and Android. Their marketplace is not a part of this device. That was sad but I soon found through various forums the YouTube app and the Kindle app. I was very happy about that. The browser is great. I can stream some video but not all because of the Flash Player. It says it is there but it is not. I have tried to get it installed but no luck. The device has good weight to it. I am getting used to the resistive screen. I don't have to use the stylus that much just my fingernail. As I said earlier, I have the YouTube app, the Kindle app, and a nice web browser. I know what I got into so there was no worries about purchasing it.
Pros: 1. Affordable, 2. Plays Mp4 Files (Audio and Video), Audio Files (Mp3's and More), 3. Good Standard(Non HD)resolution, 4. Highly Customizable (Once "Rooted!"), 5. Expandable Memory Via Micro SD Card. **ANDROID MARKET** YESSS!!!! Cons: 1. Touch Screen Only Works Well With Stylus(Better Once "Rooted"),2. Battery Life Is OK But It's Worse If You Multi Task, 3. The Non Standard Headphone (2.5mm)Jack.(Would've been happy with a small 2.5mm to 3.5mm wire adapter) Decided to try it for less than $100 bucks? What the heck worst case it ends up as a birthday gift or stocking stuffer. All and all I'm happy with my purchase because on trips it will get much use also while the women in my family shop I'll have some entertainment. LOL Don't Expect It To Compare to The iPad or Samsung Galaxy, But for about $100 it's ok, for less money It's even better! Hope Info Was Helpful!! Be Blessed!Read full review
