First let me say this. I was an MECP certified Installer working for a couple of different Car Audio shops back in the early '90s. I was once big into car audio. I used to tell people all the time, you cant go wrong with a pioneer. However; Pioneer is proud of their equipment. I gave my Expedition to my mom and took my Pioneer DVD, GPS, Avic-930 out. My mom wanted to keep a back-up camera and Bluetooth and DVD. So, I bought this Boss BV9362BI as a replacement for the Expedition. I got to say in my semi-professional opinion, the Boss exceeded my expectations. The Bluetooth paired effortlessly, (much easier than my Pioneer does). The DVD worked great. The back-up camera was as clear as the pioneer. The only thing I didn't really like was that the fm radio was cumbersome to change stations but, that was easily overcome by the seek buttons on the remote. Overall the Boss is much more user friendly (although it doesn't have as many features as the Pioneer like x-overs in the headunit and GPS etc.) and is easily worth the $130.00 shipping included that I paid for the radio. I would buy another one without hesitation if the occasion arose.Read full review
The Good: -The bluetooth range is fantastic. I can stand 30 feet from my closed pickup with my iphone 6s and it's crystal clear. -The sound quality is better than I expected. I was a sound tech, and i'm picky. I didn't expect much for the price, but even via bluetooth, it's warm and rich. I'm impressed. -The hands-free phone system works well, microphone is good quality, sound is clear. -It automatically repairs with bluetooth. -Installation was a breeze, and it is a true double-din, fits perfectly in the double-din slot of my 2000 Tacoma. -CD player, Bluetooth, Aux, Radio, and SD all play music perfectly. -The body and face look really nice. It looks sharp in the truck, right up until you turn it on. -Touchscreen sensitivity is pretty good. Not great, but totally usable. The Bad: -The USB input does not play music. if you plug anything into the USB port, it flashes a terrifying all blue screen that says, in yellow all caps: WARNING VIDEO NOT AVAILABLE WHILE DRIVING! and then it reverts to the FM radio. I don’t care about this since it has bluetooth and an AUX input, but if you’re really passionate about playing music via USB, look elsewhere. It does charge via the USB. -The controls for navigating the music on the SD card are basically non-existent. You can scroll through the first five letters of the album names. No way to see the artists until the songs are playing, and even then it’s weird and not intuitive. Honestly, the cognitive dissonance between the fact that it’s a touch screen with 80’s graphics and terrible coding is trippy. It feels like you should navigate these controls with a large, clunky keyboard; but no, you just tap. -The Bluetooth doesn’t automatically play again if you turn the car off and then on. It pairs, but it doesn’t send the ‘play’ command to the broadcasting device. The SD, CD, and Radio all do, but you have to tap the ‘play’ button to get the bluetooth playing again. The Ugly: -The graphics are so terrible that they're hilarious. That picture of a yellow car in the promo shot is total BS, this thing is pure 1990s 8-bit graphics. Took me a few days to realize what it reminds me of, but it's exactly like original Nintendo. Everything is in ALL CAPS with [MANY BRACKETS] and [ADJECTIVE] residual [NOUN] code still left in the display. Overall this is probably the least glamorous touch screen bluetooth car stereo I’ve ever seen. If your goal is to impress dates with how cool your stereo is, look elsewhere, unless your dates really love ‘80s gaming. If what you want is good sound quality, a hilarious video interface, a pretty impressive bluetooth receiver, and the ability to have easy hands-free calling for a super cheap price, this is a pretty good buy. For 90$, I’m very happy with my purchase. Read full review
