I was in need of a newer, larger, more powerful iMac. I'd used PC's and have been very disappointed in their weaknesses and limitations. Viruses and constant software issues have been HUGE! I strictly use APPLE products now. My old PC is gathering dust and hasn't been powered up in ages! The purchase price of my 24" iMac was affordable and I was thrilled with the delivered condition. I was disappointed that it's RAM was too limited to support the latest OS available for free from iTunes. It will require an upgrade that I wasn't expecting, but I'd still buy this iMac again...given the choice. I did have a few programming glitches when I first got the iMac, but was able to find easy/free remedies online through Apple Support. I had to purchase a new keyboard (I chose eBay) and got a good deal. All-in-all: I'm a very happy customer. I'm 53 now, and never had a computer class in my life. This doesn't come easily for me. I've had to educate myself every step of the way. Apple products allow me the leeway I need to learn from my mistakes without scrapping the HD and starting again from scratch. eBay has made it possible for me to find and purchase a quality powerful iMac, at a reasonable price, without fear of being cheated. eBay even made it possible for me to purchase an extended warranty and finance the expense through their affiliates. It's a wonder that Apple sat there and allows you to run an OS 4 generations newer than what this model came with and that if you have any Mac App Store enabled OS installed on it (as I stocked up on back in the day) you can get the latest software to run on it. It's not new, but it's the Mac version of the Dell OptiPlex GX620/745/755-machines that just work and in this case, are Mac OS Leopard to Mavericks legal. I'm writing the review from this machine in Mavericks right now, and with it tuned to my desires, it's running as well as it ever has-Snow Leopard and (for other people) Mountain Lion get this model to act up, but if you can live with the features of Leopard, Lion, or Mavericks, it's so awesome. I got the Magic Trackpad right after it first came out and I have been hooked on this Mac ever since (although unlike Fruit of the Loom underwear, you can actually over-love (as in over-use) a Mac and that's when all the problems start. So just use it for what it's good for, an updated G3 model with a giant screen (occupying the same place as G3 models in the old-school PowerPC pantheon) and you will be set. A good choice of seller helps too-if the iMac arrives busted, it could ruin your Christmas. I was interested a easy to use yet powerful desktop. This Imac fit the bill. The only missing piece was the discs if a re-install was necessary. Back up with an external drive made that mute. A fine, powerful computer.
Even though it's seven years old it has everything I need except an SD card slot, easily remedied with a USB device. The price was right. With MacOS I can drop into a shell any time and, as an old Unix guy, feel right at home.
Couldn't be happier. First time purchasing an Apple Mac. I have had an iPad mini for the past year and became real comfortable with the Apple OS. For the past 14 years all i have had were laptops using microsoft. I absolutely love this Apple Mac.
