Always fascinated with rangefinder cameras, there is no way I could not look at the remarkable range Canon had to offer in the "good old days" of the company... The camera is strongly built, the metal body radiates quality and is full of interesting design details. To start with, the mere fact that the bright-line selector has a numerical indicator next to it (and you can actually see what you are selecting) is more useful than it sounds. But the most brilliant fact is that the selected value is also visible inside (!) the viewfinder! This is a detail that the legendary German manufacturer has still to implement, and its value in regards to usability is immense. The light-meter of this camera works perfectly, and although the choice of batteries is quirky (as the old mercury batteries are not available), I have found the meter to be accurate even while using current cells. Obviously this has got to do with the latitude of the film used, but it works great in any case. I have been using the Canon 7S and its sibling, the Canon 7SZ, with the amazing RF Canon 50mm f0.95 "Dream Lens", the RF Canon 50mm f1.4 and the RF Canon 35mm f1.8 and the focusing works great. The RF-patch in the viewfinder is bright and focus can be spot-on even in difficult situations with the f0.95 lens. The camera is brilliantly engineered and I would agree with everyone who calls it the epitome of rangefinder cameras.Read full review

My other camera is a Leica M6 and I bought this one since I saw one and it impressed me how nice it is. It is fairly quiet (not as quiet as the M6 but almost..), it's RF (rangefinder) is clear and bright (again, not as nice as the M6) and it seems to be very reliable. When I got it - the 1 second speed was a bit hesitant. After few shots it got better and accurate! The meter is very accurate and can be easily used. The 50/1.8 is a gem - very small, fast and gives really nice colors. Overall - even when comparing it to the 5 times more expensive Leica M6 this is a very good camera. Now I also want to but the regular 7... Pros: +Quiet +Reliable +Nice RF (clear and bright) +X0.8 RF allows shooting with both eyes open +Easy to calibrate the RF +Camera is easy to fix and maintain +RF is less clattered (with only one or two frames at a time) +Accurate meter (!) +Pretty (!) +Cheap!! Cons: -RF patch sides are vague -a bit heavier and larger than the M6 -does not give the mechanical feel of a good LeicaRead full review

This is my first rangefinder and it's pretty intuitive. I highly recommend it. The image quality is excellent.
