These headphones are great! They provide a great aural experience with a crisp 3d soundstage that details sound separation of instruments. The headphones clearly shines in the vocals and highs that alot of current bass heavy headphones lack. I do not recommend these if you're looking for brain rattling punchy bass as the 598's showcase the full spectrum of high, mids and lows. Depending on the quality and recording of the music you're listening to, the virtual multi-dimensional effects are phenomenal! Eyes closed and you'll be truly immersed!

Very comfortable headphones with bad, bad sound. It is ok just to listen music but in studio environment you won't be able to do anything. Can not compare to audio technica ath-m50x or even 40x. I had many headphones, this is worst one.

Very nice natural non fatiguing sound. Bass is not very powerful and it gets a bit muddy at higher volumes. Still is there present. They cant go very loud and they distort at high volume with bass heavy songs. More suited for acoustical music with not too many bass. Classical music is incredible, oldies sound great. For better bass and overall better sound you should go with the HD 650 or HD700. The HD 700 can be a bit too bright though.

I have purchased 3 sets of headphones within the last 2 weeks trying to find a good set to use with my Yamaha digital piano/keyboard. Now that I have these, I am done looking! The first set was the closed back Pro 400 by Yamaha, fit is tight and sound is like a tin can. Next up was the AKG 240 open back - sound is good but fit is loose. Finally, I found the 598HD - first let me address the fit: These headphones feel like a spa for my ears! They are SO LIGHT and the velour type ear pads are amazing! They fit snug yet do not squeeze my head (hat size is 7-1/4") I wear them for about 90'-120' at a time for my practice sessions and I dont even notice them. They are also an open back so it almost sounds like you are not even wearing them when others talk. Which could be a bad thing for those wanting more noise reduction. But as far as fit and comfort - WOW, these are amazing. As far as sound: I have not used these for anything other than my piano so I cant comment on other audio quality such as recorded music. But they sound great on with my piano. I went with an open back because I read the sound is generally more 'natural and authentic'. I do think they could be a bit more 'clear' or natural, so I am not sure if they are a "flat frequency response" or not, but I do sense some slight audio effects. That could be good for recorded music, but I dont want that for my piano, just want a natural crisp sound. But the sound is still very good and considering the fantastic fit and comfort I will definitely take it. I just ordered a headphone amp so I am curious to see if that helps the sound at all. The build quality feels nice. Even given their featherlight weight, they feel very sturdy and durable. The adjustment arms solidly lock in each notch and stay there but still move easily if you want to adjust. The ear cups rotate slightly to fit to your particular head shape. The color is a bit more "cream yellow" than I was expecting, but they still look great. The packaging claims "burl wood accents" and I dont know if they are implying reall wood, but I am not convinced it is, it looks like plastic for sure, I dont even see an appearance of wood or grain - but it still looks great. The cord connection at the headphone is a twist lock which is a great feature. Other headphones would come disconnected very easily when I moved on the bench if the cord was hung up or I stepped on it. These will not do that and I love it. Overall, the fit is A-MAZ-ING and the comfort is 2nd to none. Sound for digital piano is very good. These headphones are worth the price to me and are excellent. So much so that I felt compelled to review them.Read full review

This pair of headphones is now by far my favorite pair. I just got a DAC to power these and I can say without a doubt, my eyes and ears have been opened. I can hear every detail in the music, even faults normal headphones wouldn't pick up. The range is excellent both highs and lows with everything coming together gloriously. This version of the 598's also is the best looking, the wood accents and creamy color give a very premium feel, even if its plastic. I look forward to using these Sennheiser 598's for many years to come.
