Not to confuse with the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro the DG Macro is the cheaper version of this style of lens. The pictures are sharp but, the color boque of the optics is lacking. Sigma lens's are built ruggedly sound and, the one I bought works great. I have Nikon cameras D70,D200 and,D5200. I prefer Sigma len's over any non Nikon lens. For the price you really cannot beat the quality. I also own a 150-500 mm HSM OS from Sigma too. If you cannot afford a high end lens of this type. This Sigma lens would be my choice and so there you have it......................I guess that's why I purchased this lens..

I picked this up for $139.00 and took this lens out on a 500 frame shoot the day after I got it. It focuses fast and quietly, without even a hiccup. Seems to be solid and well made. Looking closely at the quality of the photos revealed a bit chromatic aberration or color fringing on some of the brighter shots. The sharpness left a little to be desired as well. Verdict: It's not a Zeis lens, but it does not purport itself to be. If you are looking for a nice entry level 70-300 mm you you cold do a lot worse.

Just bought this Sigma lens 70 mm - 300 mm F/4.0 -5.6, I took it to the Northstar Dragway and got some excellent shots of the drivers faces. I normally use the my Nikon 200 mm and have been looking for a newer lens for my D5000 but the prices are extremely high for what I am looking for. This lens (even though manual on my D5000) it has outstanding colors and to focus manually is super easy and I can focus it on the dragsters faster then my camera does on the 200 mm. I bought this lens for under a hundred dollars and I am extremely happy with it.
I just got it and it's great the quality of the pictures... because this is my first len I can't compare with another 70-300mm Lens. I been taking pictures to 3 ft little objets and far away things and I love the results/ The only thing I do not like is that the motor is a little bit noisy , If recording video, that will be horrible on the video. a robocot on my little movies. The quality of the material and how it looks, is just great when not extended, love it! the very end when is full extended is without texture and make it looks cheap, but so far, I am happy. The Kit I bought with this was fun to receive it, everything is useful except the carrie bag which need more cushion and inside divisions, I will never put my camera there. In general, I am very satisfied with my camera and accessories, I highly recommend it.Read full review
I did do spec checks in comparison to the Tamron lens of the same specs. The Sigma scored slightly better in one of 5 category. It also rated a lower end Nikon zoom all were basically the same except the Sigma was slightly better in one category. She was looking for the macro feature which the Nikon didn't have. Her previous zoom was the Tamron but she accidently banged it getting out a car and so the auto focus stopped working. She had been pleased with the Tamron lens. I have used Sigma lenses in the past and I thought we'd give it a try and the results have been quite good.
