This system looks unimpressive, it's not shiny and black or matte gray but the speakers inside ARE made of solid material - much more in the metals - the copper coils and the magnets that push them. The heavier the magnets, the heavier the coils the higher sound quality. Full stop. This set was a find for me - literally, they were left in a hallway and I brought them home. They have excellent sound and REAL bass, not boxy and thumpy.. these have 'punch' which you don't find in most current 2.1 computer speakers. The bass is quite deep and full, and the treble and mid-ranges are crisp and clean.. the spatial range is perfect and the depth of field is almost 3D in the quality of the left/right channel separation. If you are looking for a decent, high quality sound on a budget, for an older system, these beat pretty much everything new you can find under 120 dollars. Today's speakers are made with less materials in the drivers and you can hear it. Great el-cheapo set, so good in fact that I just picked up a second set for my now quite-jealous spouse, who's grumbling about his tinny and boxy sounding CyberAcoustics that he paid way too much for (given how poorly they sound in comparison). Very happy with these speakers.Read full review

I had an Altec Lansing speaker system for over 15 years. The speaker started to make a fluttering noise so I wanted to replace it. When I received the replacement from EBAY the subwoofer had the same malfunction (fluttering) so I replaced the speaker with a new PYLE speaker of the same size. The system is now working fine......good sound when playing from a CD. Note: when you playback music from the internet, (like youtube), the sound will at times not be good as a CD. It may sound tinny, scratchy, fading sound, etc.

It is a very good workhorse and is more reliable that some of the fancy looking more recent units that do not work as well. Of course, this is a completely different company from the Altec Lansing company of the 50s and 60s that was purchased by Spark-O-Matic. And do not expect to be able to purchase "hi fidelity" speakers for less that $3,000.

Originally had a set of these with a purchase in 1999. After 17 years of steady service, an intermittent short had me searching for suitable replacements. Didn't like the sizes or reviews on current models; found a NIB replacement here. Could not be happier.

Altec is famous for big sonorisation. Whatever, the Lansing ACS 340 are litle. Thus, you have big in litle. And, it si good for home where you dont need powerfull speakers.
