For my first Brooks saddle, I was concerned about a possibly long and uncomfortable breaking-in period. Some warn that it takes a leather saddle 100 miles to become comfortable to ride on, others claim distances up to 1,000 miles. Fortunately, this saddle was a comfort improvement from my Bontrager Nebula padded saddle from mile one. I'm about 66 miles into the new saddle, and it has become slightly more conformed to the shape of my "sit bones," so it is breaking in. But it was quite comfortable to begin with. The only comfort issue I have with the saddle has to do with seat position; I've been adjusting the saddle forward in tiny increments, and point-of-contact with the saddle is improving. Another half centimeter will probably be perfect. I ride a Trek FX7.3 hybrid, with a fairly upright posture. My handlebars are almost even with and only slightly below my saddle. I had considered going for the sprung "Flyer" version of the classic Brooks B17, but chose the non-sprung model mainly because it's available in blue. Turns out to have been a good choice, even if made for absolutely the wrong reason. As tight as the Brooks saddle is, it offers a surprising degree of shock-absorption on the road. I feel noticeably less shock from the road with the B17 than with my previous padded saddle. Installation was a snap, and adjustment has been easy. So far, my assessment of the Brooks saddle is that it's very comfortable to begin with and improves with time. And that if I ever replace my bike, I'll keep the Brooks and move it to the new ride.
