I have been prowling the high country for years and always wanted a really good pair of binoculars w/o having to spend an arm and a leg for the pricier European brands. Years ago I had Leupold Porro Prisms 7 X 35's that were more than adequate. Graduated to a pair of Nikon Monarch 8 X 42's that were better since they were of the roof prism variety. I wanted more and bought a pair of Cabela's/Meopta 10X42's that were sweet but a little heavy. Sold those and bought the VORTEX. They are lighter in weight, clear to the edge, and bright as a shining star. Excellent binocular for the price and very comparable to those counting twice the price. Don't forget the lifetime warranty. This pair should do it for now, no reason to have anything else.

Have had my Vortex Talon HD binoculars a few weeks now and have used it a couple of times. Beaten by the brillians it shows the picture already at the first time. Lovely! The kingfisher accidentally appeared in the image field for the first time was just an additional bonus. Convinced that it will make my bird watching even more interesting. Not particularly lightweight, but a great picture. Very pleased with the purchase.

Excellent build quality and optics. They passed the Leica test. As sharp and as bright as my Leica Trinovid's 8x42, but with better CA correction and a wider field of view. The reason I bought them was for the wide FOV as the Leica's narrow field is sometimes very apparent, and in some situations the yellow fringing is very obvious. The Talon's won't have the edge quality of lookalike (I think the Talon's look better) Swarovski's, but I think far too much emphasis is attached to edge quality. As long as there is no significant light loss to affect the view. Who looks at birds at the edge of the view? Also the Talon's are 5 times cheaper, and I think of better build quality, especially the rubber armouring. I've seen Swarovski's with horrendous bubbling and bulges all over the barrels. If you want a pair of Swarovski lookalikes with a bright, pin sharp central 50% image, and super smooth focussing, you'd better hurry as there can't be many pairs left. I have the 10x42's as well, and they are awesome too.Read full review
