I had purchased one of these a couple of years ago and after LOTS of used under some challenging environments and situations, I decided to get a backup that I was familiar and comfortable with. Will this get you images as sharp as a $5,000 outfit, no, but with being able to save RAW data and rework the image in programs such as Photoshop / Lightroom, it makes some clean and tight shots! The viewfinder is great in how much it can be manipulated for viewing when shooting above your head, down low or be flipped up for doing "selfie" shots. Another HUGE plus to this is the diameter of the lens! It conveniently fits in the space of a chain link fence opening which eliminates getting fences in shots. The presets are "nice" but I rather like to focus on effects in post processing. Also, the range of ISO, and other exposure factors, especially HDR options make this camera EXTREMELY flexible!Read full review

This is my first DSLR and I was a bit intimidated. I became interested in Olympus PEN DSLR's because I own a PEN film camera. Camera is handsome, pleasantly petite, nice in the hand, although I may add an aftermarket grip of some type, Controls are intuitive and I was able to start shooting immediately with good results. I've only taken a few dozen learning shots, and I have lots left to learn.

So many reviews have been written about this great little camera, so I will only touch on a few areas. Bracketing - As an HDR adherent (yeah, I'll get over it!), I was pleasantly surprised to find a wide range of EV bracketing pre-sets - including 5 and even 7 shot bursts - as well a host of other bracketing options. Battery life - I almost did not purchase this model because of the rated battery life of 360 shots and my interest in using it for occasional time-lapse. Fortunately, I spotted a youtube video of a PEN (model?) doing over a thousand shots - every 5 seconds - of a watch showing elapsed time. This shows that auto-focus, and the screen are the consumers of battery - not shutter. With my kit, I received an 1800mAh extra battery (the standard Olympus one is 1200). 2 days ago, I went to shoot a sunset time-lapse and was determined to see just how long this higher power battery would last. I was in for a shock! First I shot 645 frames at 1.2 second intervals. Then I did 2 sets of 350 frames each at 1.4 second intervals and some stills and brackets besides. 1,374 shots - and the battery still registered a full 3 bars on the screen - truly stellar! Also, the camera wrote all these files, in RAW - over 19GB - without a hiccup. (The results were predictably gorgeous! Olympus does sky as good as it gets!) Lenses - Don't forget that, in this day and age, a camera is (unfortunately) a "disposable" consumer item - that is, its technology will be seriously superseded in a few years. Good lenses, on the other hand, can be more timeless. The "kit" lens here is quite adequate, but this camera really deserves better. I have one of the essential "pancakes" in the Panasonic 14mm and the truly excellent Samyang 7.5mm fisheye. A must have for me is the Panasonic 12-35mm zoom - but at twice the cost of the camera, it is a serious purchase. The only issue I have with this superlative photographic tool is that the manual focus assist is a bit fiddly, but I have not really explored it fully and am sure I will get it sorted. If you are thinking of the E-PM2 as an alternative, the flip-up screen on the E-PL5 is worth the price difference alone - it really shines on a tripod. And... great service from this vendor!Read full review
this is an excellent camera. this camera beats everything in size and in picture quality. if you want small camera to take around and do not want to give up on quality and all the options then there is nothing better than this. I use mine with voigtlander 15mm f/4 and results are stunning. the olympus M4/3 lens work the best with it in terms of autofocus.autofocus is the fastest you can get in this time but only will work with olympus lenses not too fast with Pannasonic lenses. ideal camera for taking kids photos as it is small, quick and moveable LCD.
Small. Light. Takes awesome photos!
