This is a lot of trombone for the price. $1,100.00 new, $250-$400 used in good condition. Nice features, a model above their beginner models. This is exactly what you want to purchase for your kid who is learning to play. Yea, there will be scratches and a ding or two, but if they stick with it you would be happy to shell out much more for a new/superior condition instrument for concert and stage band where the exterior condition of an instrument is a bit more noticeable. Marching band is tough on instruments. I have never met a single kid (including mine) that didn't drop, bang, mishandle, knock over, or drop something on their instrument. If your kid doesn't take to it, you have lost next to nothing in resale value. If you keep it a couple years and sell it the price might actually go up. Yamaha makes excellent quality instruments.
