EA finally masters the art of multiplayer. Although this game may seem simply like a future version of Battlefield 2 at first, it is actually a huge leap forward in terms of gameplay, teamplay, and character development. The greatest difference between this and the previous Battlefield games is the unlock system. You have four basic classes: Recon, Engineer, Support, and Assault. Over time, you gain unlocks and ranks in your class, basically turning the game into a rudimentary MMORPG. The second advancement is the new Titan mode. I would describe it as "kinda weird". Your primary objective is to destroy the enemy Titan, a large mobile Star Destroyer- type thing. Your team must use tactics and skill to gain control of command posts, which contain anti-titan missiles. Also, you can choose to infiltrate the enemy Titan to destroy its reactor. Either way, you must rely on your squad and other teammates to overcome the enemy. What I really disliked about this game was how close it was to BF2. The amount of similarities was simply innumerable, from the theme song to the player chat. However, that is the only thing seperating this game from being 5/5. Bottom line: If you're into FPS's or tactical gameplay, or just a really big fan of the Battlefield series (like me), buy this game. If you're deciding between BF2 or BF2142, get 2142. If you're not any of these, don't buy it.Read full review
This is a great overall multiplayer game. Good graphics & addictive reward system - as you earn point you get to unlock new weapons & equipment. There are two different type of multiplayer games - the new "Titan Mode" is a refreshing change to the typical "capture the flag" type games. Don't bother playing this game if you want to play single player & pay attention to the system requirements. I would recommend atleast 2GB RAM & a really nice video card or its going to be choppy. Theres also a big improvment in the multiplayer menus when compared to BF2. EA Games released this game before it was ready - they had to release a critical patch within 1-2 day of its release. They've released several since then and there are still several glitches & ways for players to cheat. Also, there should have been more maps in the original game but I'm sure EA is just holding back so they can sell you more maps in the next mission pack/expansionsRead full review
First of all, I didn't go into this game with high hopes, as I had read many reviews saying it lacked some things that Battlefield 2 had. I'll start with the pros, then the cons, then what my overall feeling was. The game felt very well put together, I had just installed everything and hopped in a game, and got a basic feel right away without having to run through the boring single player tutorials. The visuals look fantastic; this includes the actual graphic quality on my computer and the art design in general. Each map was unique, and I didn't feel like they rehashed much. As with all the Battlefields, the sounds were amazing, and the more powerful guns sounded like they had that extra punch to them. The ability to upgrade your character in game (with items such as C4, a defib kit, etc) made you really want to try hard to get those points, to give you a leg up. Some of the problems made me turn off the game after only a hour or two of playing. One is the balance. I started off with all the new equipment, and went into the game facing much more powerful weapons. I could start shooting someone in the back, but because of his armor and new weapon attachments, he still had time to turn around and kill me in one shot. This made the game more frustrating than fun to play in the beginning. The only other significant low to this was although all the vehicles are new, there is a lack in the variety. There are your basic scout, transport, giant mech, gunship, and tank, but there are not really very many types as compared to BF2. Overall I would give this 4/5 stars. Battlefield 2 still holds more interest to me but BF2142 is a fun game to play in the meantime. Despite the balancing issues, the originality of the different gameplay types (Titan, Conquest, etc) kept me coming back for more.Read full review
(WIKI) As of July 2014, all official online components of the game have been deactivated following the shutdown of GameSpy. Limited multiplayer is available on other hosting services such as GameRanger. Separate third-party master servers have been created by clans and communities that restore full functionality to the game.

I own all the Battlefield games except for the three expansions for Battlefield 2. I have to admit that the only thing really keeping me coming back to this game is the rank system. If I didn't have 81 pc games, and I had more like.. 10, I'd probably play this a little bit more. Gameplay is pretty good, but it isn't much different from Battlefield 2 in my opinion. The maps are all pretty good, but they're all pretty similar. Everything is very bleak. It's always around 4:30 pm on a winter night. The game (as with all in the Battlefield series) lacks different gametypes (although it does have one more (for a total of 2) than the others). The new game mode Titan is really a lot of fun. If you don't know about it, google "titan video 2142" to find the tutorial video. It combines the usual objective of capturing points on the map but then at the end you get to either attack or defend your "mothership" type of thing. I like in Battlefield 2142 how they combined the 8 or so classes in Battlefield 2 into just 4. It's pretty nice because it just makes each class that much stronger. The unlocks can be pretty cool, especially the defibrillator and APM mines, but other than that, there isn't anything too special. I think it would be fun if they had some unlockable vehicles. Which brings me to those. If this is 2142, I'm still driving a 1999 Toyota Camry. The vehicles aren't that special. The most advanced vehicle is a battle walker, just like the one in star wars. Everything else are helicopters, tanks, or jeeps. No jets either! There's so many possibilities and they really fell through with the vehicles. While it seems from this review that I didn't really like the game, I actually did. I've logged 45 hours in so far and it is enjoyable. I think the Battlefield series overall are just fun. I was just really excited for this one because of all the possibilities, but they didn't really bring anything new to the table. If you've never played the Battlefield series, I'd probably start with this one since it's the best. If you've been playing Battlefield games for a few years now, you should probably just get this game to complete the collection, but you won't find anything new.Read full review
