I bought it because it looked cute I never played the gamecube version. Well, it is cute and fun. There's not much of a storyline or let's just say there is no storyline. There are 3 modes Challenge mode which is pretty much you play a bunch of courses and you get medals, collectables and some new levels. Another mode is the Monkey Race mode where it's like a knock-off of Mario Kart but with cute monkeys but the controls unlike Mario Kart aren't as reactive and can leaving me frustrated at times. The last mode is Monkey Fight where you duke it out and beat the computer or your friends for points/bananas. The controls like Monkey Race aren't as responsive as well and can make the game play slow. There are tons of unlockables for Monkey Race and Monkey Fight, but lacks it in Monkey Challenge. The graphics are adorable and pretty good even in 3D where there is no laging. However when the 3D is turned on at times I feel motion sickness especially if I use the motion control. Also you can use the motion sensor to move your monkey in a ball to the end of the course. The courses themselves are fun, but not very challenging until the end. Even though I just got the game. I'm already 75% of it is done. The multiplayer is pretty good, but it doesn't really add to much to the action of the game. Of course it is fun to play with friends, but it doesn't add anything new to the game. Overall, I would probably recommend this game to anyone who wants a challenge with lovely graphics and it's quirky characters, but if you want to find a cute game with a storyline. You better find it someplace else because this isn't it.Read full review
Being a fan of the Super Monkey Bal series, having followed it from Gamecube to GBA, to DS, I am really quite pleased with this entry to the series. The 3D is well used, the variety in gameplay was an added bonus. The control of the character can either be performed by the motion controls, or the joystick, making this game a whole lot of fun. Also there is a smash bros. style platform fighter as well as more content that I have yet to get to. I recommend this title if you have a 3ds and a love for monkeys in balls going through mazes collecting bananas.

Super Monkey Ball, oh how I love you and hate you so much at the same time. This game has some really solid core gameplay that is genuinely fun, and perfectly controlled. It is the closest the franchise has come to regaining the glory it had with SMB2 for the GameCube, but it has a couple glaring issues. First, its too short... like... wayyyyy to short. You can easily blaze through the campaign in 2 hours, and even thats a stretch. All the levels, while really fun and creative (for the most part), offer little challenge at all. The hardest levels are about as hard as world 3 in SMB2. There are railings everywhere to prevent you from falling off the edge. Second, there are only three modes! And only one of those is worth your time. The main mode, Monkey Ball, is what you'll be spending your time on; while the other modes, Racing and Fighting, are crappy clones of other games you can probably guess. The last issue I have is really a minor one that probably only applies to me. If you're going to have the 3D turned on (which you should), keep the 3D slider at the halfway point. If the 3D is fully on, there are some weird ghosting issues, and you can easily get a headache from all the moving of the camera (I don't normally get a headache from the 3D in other games).Read full review
I bought Super Monkey Ball for my 9yr old daughter to play on her Nintendo ds so I asked her what she thought of this game. She said she had no dislikes of this particular game and I knew she would definitely have some likes cause for weeks after she received it she spent several hours a week playing this one game. She likes that it is easy to play, the monkey fight, and I would say the graphics are good also.
I am in love with all three game modes of this game.
