I will say that for as old as this game is now, release date around 2006'ish, the graphics are solid, somewhat sketchy and grainy at times as this is the Unreal Engine 2.0(plus some additions added by the maker of the game). For tactical gameplay, and for the love of S.W.A.T. this game rocks. I played SWAT3 also, and this one's a major improvement over sound, video, AI, game mechanics, and level design. This is a game you can play by yourself and actually COMMAND the AI to do S.W.A.T. oriented things, and complete missions...so it never gets too boring, or you can even team up with up to 4 more of your friends for CoOp Games, AND/OR up to 16 friends for Team Deathmatch type games. This is a MUST HAVE for Unreal Tournament Engine Game fans, and for small clans, or a group of friends to play on the lan, or even host a dedicated server. 1-5 scale 5=Easy 1=Difficult Installation = 5 Jump in and play = 3 Controls Learning Curve = 3 Team-Play = 1 (very challenging but worth the practice) System specs are pretty useless. this game will run on just about anything. I've installed it on XP Professional, Vista home Premium, and now on Windows 7, and I've used both 32-bit and 64-bit as well. It runs well on just about any machine with AVERAGE gaming scores. (IE your video card ram specifications like those) For those that need some numbers Amd Sempron 2.0 ghz with 2 gig of (ddr1) ram and an agp 8x 7600 card using XP Professional was the smallest machine I've run it on. FLAWLESS. settings on high... clean. AMD Athlon X2 6400+ (3.2 gig dual core) 3 GIG of Ram 1 SATA2 120GB HDD and an Nvidia PCI-E 8800GTS 320Bit/RAM version using Windows 7 32-bit CLEAN AND FLAWLESS, no driver or incompatibility issues on either machine. I also ran it on the same machine now running win7, but with Vista Home Premium before, and had the same positive results. Setting up a dedicated server is very easy if the admin has prior experience with Unreal Engine type games. The game comes with an .EXE to even start a server. all that needs to be done is setting up two .ini files to your liking after installing the Retail copy of the game on your server machine and boomdeya, instant dedi-gratification:) I have one running now {OCS} home clan Server...you'll find it in the S.W.A.T. 4 server browser. One last thing, there are at least 35+ servers left with people on them at all different times of the day, so there's still enough community left to find people to play the game with. cheats I haven't seen any yet as they're pretty much useless for the game mechanics etc. Version 1.1 is the latest so you can find that to download on filefront, or fileplanet. just do a google search for SWAT 4 1.1 patch and you're good. I hope this helps! Thanks for reading my review:) ENJOY!Read full review
I were expecting more from this game. I thought this one had to be better than the swat 3 but it is not!!! The scenaries are a little better but the humans are not. I dont like the way the people die and nobody pick the arrested people. It supouse the bonus cd have more weapon but it does not.. And something important is that I CAN NOT register my product online because when I introduce my country the system take me out of the screen with out register it, only can register the expansion cd (the stetchkov sindicate), is this unbeliveble or what!!! I can play online but there are not enought action, is a simple game. I bougth this game because somebody told me that it was a good game and it have a multiplayer option for the computer but it only can be played by one player at the time and not 2. So I feel busted with this game, I hoped more than I have now. This is my personal experience, may be help the people to take a good decision when they really know the true about this game. thank you people I hope you take a better decision than I did.Read full review
I like shooters of all types...from the run n' gun style to stealth to huge multi-player battlefield to role-playing character build-up style shooters. SWAT 4 touches on some of these genres, but it brings something unique with a very fun and satisfying result - it makes you care about who you are shooting and when it is ok to shoot them. Also the game is highly replay-able with its random enemy and hostage positions, different weapons (including non-lethal) and range of strategies. Also the controls are great allowing you to smoothly get your team to help bring the hostile situations under control.
One of the most interesting things about this game is that shooting is optional. You can yell at them to drop their weapon, and sometimes they will. Sometimes they fire back. But you don't have to kill them! You can use non-lethal means to complete the missions with no bloodshed. That is an interesting spin considering most shooters today are all about KILL KILL KILL! Definitely get this game if you are looking for a change of pace from standard shooter fare.
As far as keeping up with the previous Swat franchises, this game is a great installment. Although your squad A.I. seems a bit "dingy" at times and is easy to leave behind, the realism behind each mission is great. Another great thing is it's got superb replay value since each time you play a mission it changes so it's never the same.
