Referencing the word "wonder" in the review title, I was really referring to the fact that I was starting to wonder if I would ever get to play the game. This was probably the worst piece of software that I ever had to deal with regarding installation and having to search forums to find out what file to download to even get the game running in the first place. The game itself is pretty good, minus a couple of places where your character gets stuck, resulting in you having to go back to the last checkpoint. One last complaint before I move on to the positives --- I hate the fact that there is only 1 save slot for the entire game. I have played some games with my son playing in parallel, and using the normal multiple save slots to save progress for both of us. This is not possible with this game -- unless I assume that each person has to log onto their own Windows Live account. What a pain! On the good side, gameplay itself is awesome. The movement and attacks are slightly different from the norm -- a nice change of pace. There are multiple modes of play, from the normal fighting on foot, to maneuvers using vehicles. The gameplay is challenging, as are the bosses. There are a variety of ways to finish off the bosses, with some smarts needed to finish the job. Graphics are decent, though a little color could have been added to change things up throughout the game. Overall, a game well worth buying, though do some research first to see the file to download off their website so that you don't have to wait 3 hours to start playing the game once you bring it home like I did.Read full review
If you have a computer that can handle this game, it is a beautiful and very intense game. I own a ATI 4850 and can get 60 fps most of the time (the game is capped around there) @ 1680x1050 resolutuion, all high settings, no AA. So if you cannot handle this game with your current rig, I advise against buying it as the fluidity of the game will be greatly diminished. The single player campaign is one of the most action-packed, intense games I have ever played, and will likely keep me coming back to the title. I have completed the single-player campaign over 3 times already and it has yet to get old. Takes 7 to 15 hours to complete, depending on skill and difficulty. However, the multiplayer has many flaws and very few hosts. Like the 360 counterpart, matches are hosted by the players rather than dedicated servers. With that in mind, there are few servers to choose from, and worse yet, the lag on some of these servers are unbearable and will leave you furious at times. Also, no one plays co-op. I've tried hosting a co-op game, but no one joined for 3 hrs. So there it is. The single player is the shining gem and is worth it though.Read full review
Awesome game! By all means buy it! If it were me I wouldn't spend more than $35 on it but even still that is a lot. Graphics: If you are someone who loves great graphics like Crysis and Far Cry 2, you will like this game. Game-play: The things I like were that you could use cover and flanking manovers to defeat the enemy. The only down side is that there aren't any vehicles to drive lying around like in the other 2 games. You do get turrets though. Physics: Decent, not as good as Crysis but better than Far Cry A.I. : Very good Storyline: OK, pretty much it is as much as you get with Crysis, decent but not great Weapons: Very cool, some of the best I've seen. I like the satellite gun that sends rockets to the ground at any targeted location. Texture: Very good. rate it a 9/10 barley better than Crysis but not much at all All in all, I would take this game any day over Halo but as for the best I would rate it about a 8 out of 10 because some-times it does get a little repetitive but all in all it's a great game. I hope that this was helpful.Read full review
This is a very good third person shooter action game. This one has good graphics, reasonable AI, and flows well. The action is non stop, with a variety of settings. It uses sound very well, so that if your stereo works, you will pick up direction of new enemies before they shoot. The in game hints are done in such a manner that they do not detract from the situation. Ammunition is abundant, and when a special weapon is needed, it is provided. The only thing I dislike is the inability to save where I want to save the game. I chose this game after researching PC games that I had not played. This one had a good customer rating. I have really enjoyed the game, and am only sorry that Gears of war 2 is not available for the PC as well.
Gears of War Hopefully this game makes it to PC, it rocks!!! It's amazing on X-Box 360 and I can't wait to play in on my comp! This game lives up to all the hype surrounding it. I started playing campaign mode right away, and was amazed by the incredibly fast load times, even the online play loads incredibly quick. Now there are a lot of games on the next-gen consoles that look like they should be on the older consoles, some even look like they belong on N64 or Sega Saturn. Gears of War takes the potential of the Xbox 360 and runs with it. Simply put, this game is amazing. Gears of War offers more than your typical run and gun, if you want to survive you must use objects to take cover. If you try to run and gun you won't succeed. There's no cross hairs unless you are holding the aim button, that kinda sucks, but you get used to it. Pros: - This game rocks - Not just a run and gun, you need to think fast and act faster - Fast load screens, even in multiplayer - Graphics are superb - Very easy controls, the "A" button does most of the work - Weapon Selection - Overall Gameplay - Graphics, I know, I know, but the graphics are that good - Playing in the harder difficulties is actually harder, the AI is smart and challenging, instead of the increase of enemies that is usually the solution in FPS games - Chainsaw and curb stomp kills - The end of the game pretty much tells you there will be a sequel Cons: - Unless you have an internet connection, you might be a little dissapointed with the length of single player mode - Other than that... NONE!!! Final Verdict: Graphics 5/5 Audio 5/5 Controls 5/5 Gameplay/Story 5/5 Replay Value 5/5 Overall 5/5 Buy or Rent?: Buy, unless you dont play multiplayer, then you can rent and beat, but you still might want to own it.
